New: Corum x Cortina Admiral 42 Automatic Black and Gold

The Corum Cortina Admiral 42 Automatic Black and Gold has a retail price of SGD 38,900 inclusive of GST. Available only on the Cortina online site. Limited Edition of 50 pieces.

Commentary

The third Corum x Cortina collaboration, this time on the Admiral 42 base with the Black and Gold colour combination. Case is black ceramic which has a matte sandblasted finish. The Ceramic Admiral was a collection which debuted only this year.

The globally available release models also include a model with the black and gold theme, but there is a difference. Instead of a gold bezel with gold hour markers, the Cortina collab has a carbon-gold bezel which is rather unique. The bezel is made by combining 18k 5N gold inclusions into the carbon layup, so that it appears like specs of gold. The effect looks somewhat similar to the glass infused carbon used by Girard-Perregaux in their Absolute series. But different because it uses specs of gold infused into the carbon. Makes for a very interesting specular highlight to the bezel, and ensures that no two are completely the same. For contrast, the sloped rehaut is now in gold and the appliqué hour markers finished in a silver-grey look, matching the sunburst dial.

The movement remains the Corum workhorse CO 395,  an automatic movement based on the ETA 2895, which itself is based on the ETA 2892.

Pricing wise, the new Cortina Admiral Automatic 42 Black and Gold is set quite a level above the regular one, at nearly SGD 40k versus CHF 18k (about SGD 28k) for the regular collection.

Admiral 42 Automatic Black and Gold

The Admiral 42 Automatic Black and Gold is a stunning timepiece that exudes charm and elegance.

The 42mm model comes in a sandblasted black ceramic case with a carbon and gold bezel. Each bezel is unique, as it is made by combining 18K 5N gold inclusions with carbon, resulting in a one-of-a-kind design where no two pieces in this line-up are the same, because of the meticulous process of combining fluctuating layers of 18K 5N gold inclusions with carbon.

The anthracite sunray-finished dial adds the finishing touches to its sleek design, while the vulcanised rubber strap enhances its style and versatility, making it comfortable to wear and perfect for any occasion.

Limited to 50 pieces globally, with an engraving of “LIMITED EDITION 1 of 50” at the back of the case, the collaboration comes as part of the long-term partnership between Cortina Watch and Corum. It is not the first, but the third between the two pioneers in the watch industry. In October 2022, Corum presented a Limited Edition Admiral 45 Tourbillon, a 45mm timepiece specially created for Cortina Watch’s 50th Anniversary, which was limited to 10 pieces globally.

In December 2021, Corum debuted a Limited Edition Admiral 42 Automatic Grey Monochrome crafted in sandblasted stainless steel with a gradient grey dial. This was only available for sale online at Cortina Watch.
