This year, according to Chinese zodiac, is known as the “Year of Goats”. In order to commemorate and celebrate this occasion, Arnold and Son had specially produced the Royal Collection HM Goats Special Edition.
This particular watch, obviously, had adopted very strong Asian elements in it. The mother of pearl dial features a hand-painted miniature of goats feeding on leaves from a tree. The hand painting was inspired by the ancient Chinese ink wash painting, in which it was reinterpreted by miniature painting by hand on this watch.
In order to produce such fine artwork, the painter had to pay close attention to his/ her tone and shading through the tiny brushstrokes and texturing. This technique requires great skills and experience to execute such fine artwork that features such richness and great attention to detail. The end result, which can be seen from the dial, is simply stunning.
The Royal Collection HM Goats Special Edition is powered by Arnold and Son’s A&S1001 movement. The manual-winding movement features a power reserve of 90-hours, thanks to the twin barrel system that is adopted by Arnold and Son. The twin barrel also allows the watch to have a more constant force and in turn a more constant rate and greater accuracy as well. At 2.7mm, the movement is very thin, and this allows it to fit into a thinner case (which allows the wearer to slip the watch under the shirt cuffs easily). The movement is hand-chamfered and decorated tastefully as well.
The 40mm timepiece is available only in 18k rose gold, although the clients can request to have a diamond-set bezel in place of the rose gold bezel for their watch. The watch is only limited to eight pieces, since eight is an extremely auspicious number in the Chinese culture. For someone who is born in the year of goat, this is certainly one of the watch that is worth considering to keep in his/ her collection.
