Ressence released a new addition to their Type 1 collection during the Dubai Watch Week with the Type 1 DXB, featuring a dial in sand colour with Arabic inspired geometric patterns.
We had the watch for the best part of the evening taken directly off the wrist of Benoît Mintiens when we met in Dubai. Created for the UAE market for Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the watch is a limited edition of the Type 1 Squared which we reviewed here.
Ressence Type 1 DXB
The design is subtle, but is with easily identifiable regional roots. The geometric patterns are Arabic in origin as is the sand coloured PVD dial which is a further indication to the arid, sandy desert where most of the UAE is comprised of.
Limited to 19 pieces, Type 1DXB draws inspiration from Arabic geometric patterns, believed to unveil the underlying reality to the viewer. The design is at once modern (as with Ressence designs) and traditional and uses the beautiful play of light and shadow over the skeletonized dial.

The watch remains 100% faithful to the functions and movement of its parent, the Type 1 Squared. It differs distinctly from the collection only in its design and in its material. Unlike the other Type 1 Squared which has a stainless steel case, the DBX features one polished Grade 5 titanium, with a satin finish back.
The movement used is the Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS), unique in-house (and patented) module featuring ever-changing discs, retained from other Type 1 iterations.
The dial features continually orbits around one another is now finished in sand color PVD (physical vapor deposition). The hands and indexes are white and filled with Superluminova punctuating a decidedly traditional but fresh look. Ressence’s “less is more” philosophy, which enables it to produce state-of-the-art but always revolutionary watches, is pushed to the limit.
This is an absolutely charming watch. And I was the envy of the entire Dubai Watch Week village during the evening it adorned my wrist. Almost everyone who saw it declared it to be an absolute beauty. And equivocally, we agree! The design is subtle, but is with easily identifiable regional roots. Priced at CHF 22,500 before taxes. It is understood that all 19 pieces have been snapped up by Seddiqi top clients, sight unseen, when the Type 1 DBX was announced and Benoît was there only to show the watch and to conduct a Masterclass at the show.
