#ShootYourWatches2 Photo Assignment: Here are the finalists and the winner!

Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr +

We started a Photo Assignment: #ShootYourWatches in 2020 to provide a means to pass the time and as an outlet for our readers in lockdown. It proved to be very successful, and for 2021, we partnered with Casio Edifice Singapore to run the second edition – #ShootYourWatches2.

The second series closed on May 31, midnight Singapore time. And looking at the submissions, while there were no lack of excellent entries, the total number of submissions were lower than in 2020. Perhaps the limitation of having a sponsor who wanted the top prize to be picked up in person in Singapore may have dampened international participants. But even with this, we received some international entries, including one which we have selected for a souvenir, which we will send worldwide.

Casio Edifice ECB-20D as the top prize.

Winners of #ShootYourWatches2 Photo Assignment

Without further ado, here are the finalists. All finalists listed here will qualify for a souvenir prize.

@mad_hobbyist

The @mad_hobbyist submitted several entries via Instagram. We applaud you for your enthusiasm. Out of the submissions, we selected the following as it the motor racing theme, albeit the legendary motorcycle by Honda – the RC162. The three Casio watches displayed are also on point, though not the exact Edifice EQS-930HR release for the Honda RC162.

@wall_al1

Alain Wallior submitted several entries. And we liked most of them. A quick look at his website revealed that he is a professional real estate photographer based in France. The images are taken with the Nikon D750 with Nikkor 60mm afs f2.8G micro and Metz Cobra flash. The photograph is made at ISO 100, f/8 at 1/100s.

We liked his images as the colour matching is excellent. The watch looks like the GA-2110ET-8ADR, but has orange indices which we do not see in the current Casio Singapore catalog. A French Edition? The orange accents on the grey watch perfectly complements the toy Porsches used – the 911 Turbo 1977 n grey, and the 911S 1968 in orange.

@chiefmatex – the winner!

Randy A, @chiefmatex submitted several entries as well. We picked two of his submissions to showcase the work. Both are shot with the new Fujifilm GFX 100S with GF 110mm f2 lens, Viltrox 18mm extension tube and Godox AD300Pro strobes.

The first is the DWE-5600CC-3DR which he paired with a rope camera strap. We liked the selection of the beige-brown background which is echoed in the camouflage pattern of the circuit board image used on the body of the watch. And peeking in on the lower left, is the colour LED display of a Cyberboard mechanical keyboard.

And our pick for the winning entry. Interestingly, it is also the GA-2110ET-8ADR, this time, in the standard grey version available in Singapore. The background seems to be a race car to bring the racing theme to play. The same rope camera strap is used, and nicely picks up on the car’s livery.

A small nit might be to have set the hands at the standard 10:10 or 2:50 position, to create the smiley face effect and to frame the Casio brand name. Having said that, our photograph of the grand prize Casio Edifice ECB-20D also shows a hand setting which is not photogenic as well.

Also photographed with the Fujifilm GFX 100S with GF 110mm f2 lens, Viltrox 18mm extension tube and Godox AD300Pro strobes.
