Swatch releases 5 new watches to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, inspired by neon colours of Asian city street lights and signs.

New: Swatch Year of the Dragon collection

The Swatch Year of the Dragon collection is in 5 models:

Commentary

Quite an interesting collection by Swatch to usher in the new Year of the Dragon. Five new references in various Swatch collections. We find that all except for one offers the traditional garish multi colours of the Chinese New Year.

One model is even equipped with the SwatchPay!, their NFC enabled payment chip on the watch. An interesting tech feature, and might prove to be useful. We have not used SwatchP!ay before and imagine it to work in the same way as Apple Pay. But much more limited, as the system is only supported by some countries, EXCLUDING Singapore…so that’s out for those of us here. But is available in many European countries and Switzerland. The exception is the Dragon in Gold, which features the Slim line, in a gold toned watch which reminds us of the maki-e techniques used by Japanese craftsmen. Of course, the watch is not urushi by any stretch of imagination. After all it is a Swatch, and rather inexpensive.

Dragon in Cloud

This oversize watch with dragon print features a silver-colored dial with multi-color print encased in a semi-transparent biosourced case and glass. It has a matching semi-transparent matte white strap with multicolor print and silver and white-colored loops with silver and red-colored print and a silver-colored buckle.

Dragon in Wind Pay!

This watch with dragon print features a black, multi-color printed dial encased in a black biosourced case and glass. It has a matching black printed strap with black, printed loops and a black buckle. This watch is SwatchPAY!-enabled.

Dragon in Waves

This watch with dragon print features a blue, multi-color printed dial encased in a dark blue biosourced case and glass. It has a matching blue, multi-color printed strap with red and golden-colored printed loops and blue buckle.
