Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced the release of the MRG- G1000HG-9A, a 20th anniversary model to commemorate the original launch of its flagship MR-G series in the G-SHOCK line. Employing gold and indigo design elements, which have been widely used in traditional Japanese artwork and architecture, Casio designed the new MRG-G1000HG to be traditional yet bold. A limited edition of 300 watches will be sold worldwide.

The new G-SHOCK MRG-G1000HG-9A Gold Hammer Tone 20th Anniversary.

The MR-G series offers the ultimate in tough watch design. Cased completely in titanium, the watch bears some of the highest degree of shock resistance but with the lightness of 153grams. Pretty impressive for a watch with its dimensions. Housing distinctive Japanese design cues, the new model features gold and indigo design elements, which alludes to color themes from ancient Japan, found extensively in Japanese artwork and architecture. The gold ion plating on the bezel, case, band, and back cover was applied after deep-layer hardening, while the indigo accents were rendered using a blue diamond-like carbon (DLC) finish.

The distinctive patterns on the bezel is achieved through the Tsuiki metal hammering technique. This traditional metal-hammering technique was developed for use in the formation of items such as armour and copperware by striking metal sheets with a hammer.

In order to realise the MR-G concepts of extreme toughness and highly refined elegance, Casio chose tsuiki*, a traditional Japanese metalworking technique that combines high degrees of both practicality and beauty. The bezel and the center row of the band on each watch were finished by Bihou Asano, a third-generation master tsuiki artisan. He applied the traditional hammered treatment to each piece, giving the final product a profound sense of originality. Asano has created works for the Kyoto State Guest House and participated in restoration work for items designated as Important Cultural Properties in Japan.

Casio also gave the MRG-G1000HG outstanding technical specifications worthy of a 20th anniversary model. This status is denoted by a metal plate at the 10 o’clock position engraved with “20th LIMITED” and a serial number engraved on the back case.

Like the MRG-G1000 model it is based on, the new MRG-G1000HG comes with an advanced timekeeping system that receives both Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite signals and radio wave time-calibration signals, and features Dual Dial World Time, which displays times in two cities simultaneously.

The MRG-G1000HG-9A Gold Hammer Tone 20th Anniversary model will be available in January 2017, and will retail for S$9,299. It will be available at G-Factory boutique at Ion Orchard, G- Factory Premium boutique at Marina Bay Sands and Cortina Watch boutique at Chinatown Point.
