Baselworld 2016: Oris Calibre 112

In the last couple of years, Oris had launched two timepieces that feature its new in-house developed movements. This year, Oris had upped the game again, this time with the Calibre 112 that offers an additional GMT function with a day-night indicator.

The Calibre 112 is the latest to join in the collection, with the Calibre 110 and 111 as its siblings in the family. We have reviewed the Calibre 111 in the past, and we have raved about its price proposition and quality of the timepiece. The new Calibre 112, on paper, seems to continue to impress us as well.

One of the main highlights of the latest novelty is the addition of a new function. The GMT complication, with the day-night indicator, appears in a sub-dial that is positioned at the 12 o’clock position of the watch. The sub-dial, notably, features a dedicated hour and minute hand. It also contains the day/ night indicator, which is represented by two apertures that features a round shape and a crescent shape. Interestingly, there is a two-tone rotating disc (with black and white colors) beneath the sub-dial, and it provides an indication as to whether it is currently night or day at the moment. On top of that, at sunrise or sunset, the indicators become a mix of both white and black to show the progression.

The movement, as mentioned, is developed in-house by Oris. It is a manual-winding movement, and it features a 10 day power reserve that is delivered via a single barrel. It also features a patented non-linear power reserve indicator, and a date function. This is on top of the GMT function with day/night indicator that we have discussed above.

The Oris Calibre 112 is available in various options: a stainless steel case with a blue-gray or opaline silver dial, or a two-tone case model that features an 18k rose gold bezel and an opaline silver dial. They will all be fitted with a Louisiana crocodile leather strap, although one can also opt for the bracelet option for the stainless steel pieces.

The watches are priced at CHF 6,300 for the stainless steel version, and CHF 7,800 for the two-town variant. For more information, please check out Oris’ website here.
