With 2015 drawing to a close, Officine Panerai is giving us a sneak peak of their offerings to be shown at SIHH 2016 in January. The iconic cushion shaped case of the Radiomir 1940 collection is receiving a dial that has never been placed inside the case. Introducing the first ever white dialed Radiomir 1940, the Panerai PAM 655 Radiomir 1940 3 Days Automatic Acciaio 42mm.
The new timepiece features a white dial that is very similar to the one found in the PAM 523 Luminor 1950 with a few minor tweaks. The dial features Arabic numerals in the familiar Panerai font, the subsidiary seconds hand located at the 9 o’clock position in addition to the hour and minutes. All of the hands and the hour markers have vintage coloured SuperLuminova applied to them. Sorry die hard Paneristi, no “sandwich” dial this time.

The Radiomir 1940 is case made from AISI 316L stainless steel. It marks the transition from the wire lug case of the first Radiomir in 1936 to the crown guard Luminor case of 1950.

Powering the watch is the in-house P4000 self winding movement. The P4000 features a bidirectional micro-rotor made from tungsten. The movement has two spring barrels and a power reserve of 3 Days (72 Hours). It can be viewed through the sapphire caseback. The watch comes on a brown leather strap.
