Enter mosaic glass

The work to create the dial is rather interesting. The entire dial is a mosaic of stained glass. The artisanal work with the stained glass is done with a specialist partner in Ravenna in Italy. The city of Ravenna is famous for its stained glass. The earliest example of stained glass is found in an ecclesiastical setting with the depiction of Christ in Majesty, and is thought to have been made in the 6th century.

Another version in a white gold case, with the micromosaic dial in blue and white with 36 brilliant-cut diamonds.

The dial is first made by machining brass in Geneva, and this is sent to Ravenna. There glass is manufactured in various colours befitting the design of the Harry Winston designers. The glass bits are then assembled by hand into the compartments in the brass dial. This can be seen clearly in the macro photograph below.

The dial is then set with diamonds in Geneva. For the red, pink and white edition as well as the turquoise blue and white edition, 14 brilliant cut diamonds are inserted. The series is also available with other colour dials in rose and white gold.

The case

Each bit of glass is attached to the dial by hand, and when completed, the assembled mosaic is polished by hand. The completed work is sent back to Harry Winston in Geneva to be encased. The case for the red, pink and white edition in 18k rose gold, and the bezel is set with 88 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 2.56 cts).

A Raspberry pearl alligator leather is then attached. The case has a water resistant rating of 30m.

The movement

Harry Winston chose to use a very elegant 36mm case for the collection. The watch is fitted with an automatic winding caliber HW2008, which can be seen from the sapphire case back.
