Rolex Daytona 116588TBR-0003

The Rolex Daytona 116588TBR-0003 was introduced at BaselWorld 2019. As much as it’s famous for tool-watch stainless steel Daytonas, Rolex has also an arsenal of gemset variations famed for their ‘outlandish’ designs.

The Case and Dial

Keeping with the tradition of the blinged Daytona, with the most famous of them, the ‘Rainbow’ Daytona, the 2019 model features a yellow gold case with 36 trapeze-cut diamonds replacing the usual tachymeter scale. The watch measures 40 mm in diameter and 12 mm in thickness. This makes for a ‘modest’ size juxtaposed with its overt display of wealth.

On the paved black lacquer dial, champagne-colour chronograph counters are intertwined with black lacquer and diamonds. The dial appears to represent the face of a tiger, considering the color accents and wavy lines mimicking a tiger’s stripes.

Completing the dial are hour markers in the in yellow gold setting, holding eight circle diamonds. Arabic numerals are used at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock position, 15, 30 and 45 also in 18 K yellow gold.

The watch is fit with a rubber strap and is water resistant to 100 meters.

The Movement

Rolex Daytona models are equipped with the automatic Caliber 4130, a movement that needs no introduction. The in-house movement beats at 28800vph and has a power reserve of 72 hours. Keeping to COSC standards, it also offers an accuracy of -/+2 seconds per day.

Concluding thoughts

A sports watch in a luxury case, the Daytona 116588TBR-0003 while not as iconic as the Rainbow Daytona, is the watch of choice for the less discrete super rich to strap on for yachting weekends. A jewelry timepiece in essence, the Daytona 116588TBR-0003 has its flair (subjective) and fun factor, but would not be a significant piece for collectors who only want serious, technical and artisanal watches.

  1. And the reason a Daytona has been ruined just to suit the Asians who buy it is?…….

  2. Needs more diamonds…..then again, maybe the folks at Rolex were showing a bit of restraint here….

  3. If you want to wear girly jewellery get yourself a bracelet and maybe a necklace and a nice pair of ear-rings otherwise drop this moronic, conspicuously tasteless obscenity and go for stainless – the poor legibility and masked bezel make no sense either in what is, let’s face it, a “tool watch”. A great way to ruin a highly respected time-piece – the expensive gems cheapen it if anything. Only a douche would buy this and why would you pay through the nose to advertise that fact?
