This weeks Spot the Watch, is on retired French footballer Thierry Henry. A former star of Arsenal, FC Barcelona and New York Red Bulls, he now works as a pundit for Sky Sports. We have spotted some interesting watches on his wrist.
The first brand that we have spotted on multiple occasions is Rolex. Thierry Henry is quite fond of the Cosmograph Daytona. The Daytona is a modern day classic in any metal (exception being the Leopard Daytona),featuring the in house calibre 4130 self winding chronograph movement with vertical clutch. Monsieur Henry has been spotted with two different variations. The white dialed stainless version goes quite nicely with a casual outfit of jeans and a T-Shirt.
The next variation is the 18k Everose gold model with a chocolate dial and black Cerachrom bezel with Alligator strap and buckle. This version looks more formal and pairs well with a suit. This was on the wrist of Thierry Henry when a statue of him was unveiled at the Emirates Stadium, home of the Gunners.
The other brand we will be featuring today is Audemars Piguet. Thierry Henry quite likes AP’s and has been spotted with quite a few models, some that you will not see everyday. The design of the Royal Oak was conceived by the legendary watch designer Gerald Genta. The design has remained evergreen since it was first released in the 1970’s and remains an Icon.
The first model spotted is the new updated Royal Oak Offshore with ceramic crown and pushers. The model on his wrist is the pink gold version with leather strap and buckle. As you can see it works with a suit to a certain degree.
The next AP model spotted, has a wrist presence that is menacing, The model in question is the Royal Oak Offshore Survivor. This was a 1,000 piece limited edition launched at the end of 2008. What makes this piece stand out is the black coated titanium case, the striped bezel and the titanium protectors for the chronograph pushers. A watch that stands out on the wrist.
The next model spotted on Thierry Henry’s wrist is a Royal Oak Offshore with a nautical theme. The Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team Chronograph. This was made in 2007 for the Swiss Yacht team Alinghi. The watch features their logo on the sub dial at 3 o’clock. The case and bezel are made from forged carbon.with the chronograph pushers made from ceramic. Since the watch was made for Yachting, it features a flyback chronograph and Regatta countdown timer.
Now the final two Audemars Piguet models that Thierry Henry owns come from the top drawer. These pieces are from the Concept line. The Concept line from Audemars Piguet demonstrates the knowledge that has been built up to produce pieces of technical excellence combined with innovative materials for the both the movement and the case.
The first Concept model that Thierry Henry owns is the Royal Oak Concept Carbon. This watch features a Forged carbon case, black ceramic bezel, blackened titanium caseback ring, black ceramic screw-locked crown and pushpieces in addition to a hand wound tourbillon, with linear indication for the chronograph minutes and power reserve indicator, A very cool looking watch aesthetically with a sophisticated movement.
The final watch we are featuring is the Royal Oak Concept GMT. This is instantly recognisable by its ceramic white bezel. Like the Concept Carbon, the watch features a handwound tourbillion and as the the name suggests it features a second time zone with day/night indicator. We applaud Thierry Henry for choosing pieces from the Concept range of Audemars Piguet!. Its not often you see a footballer choose a timepiece based on its technical prowess!
We hope you have enjoyed this weeks Spot the Watch!
