News: Ressence Type1 MR PORTER

RESSENCE amazed us, at the beginning of the year, with a dress watch – TYPE 1² “Squared”. You can read about it in our Presse Release and in the Review. The Swiss-made independent watch brand teams up with the award-winning online destination for men’s style MR PORTER and launches two exclusive limited-edition timepieces named Ressence Type1 MR PORTER.

Ressence Type1 MR PORTER

Resssence has already accustomed us with special and limited-edition timepieces. In 2015, the brand created the 5-piece limited edition of Type 1V Genesis released at the 5^th brand anniversary. This time, MR PORTER timepieces are available in two versions: 12 pieces of the Type 1PN MRP in titanium and 6 timepieces of the Type 1 PW MRP 18k Rose Gold. The collaboration comes as a natural partnership since the introduction, in 2015, of Ressence watches as part of the MR PORTER offer.

 

 

Ressence Type 1PN MRP

Type 1PN is the lightest version being manufactured in Grade 5 Titanium. The 42mm diameter case gives no clues about the material used. The highly polished surface doesn’t betray the technical difficulty of working with such a hard material as titanium. At only 12 mm thickness and with the beautiful wire swinging lugs, the timepiece competes with TYPE 1² “Squared” for the “dressiest” watch in the collection. The lugs integration is smooth and natural and gives the case a familiar, almost vintage look. The watch is accompanied by a blue leather strap.

 

 

The case back has a fabulously patterned surface for an efficient grip. This is necessary, as the “crownless” design means that the back bezel is used for time setting, date of the week and for winding. We consider it a beautiful finding for a technical “issue”.

 

 

The dial of the Ressence Type 1PN MRP is a feast for the fans of blue watches. The Night Blue convex dial is circular brushed and it features three silver eccentric biaxial satellites for the hours, minutes and seconds. Not only is the visibility excellent, but the light play on the surface of the dial is an eye catcher.

 

Ressence Type 1 PW MRP

 

This 6 pieces limited series is a more classic oriented design, if we can say so about such an unusual watch. The case is identical in terms of size and finishes, but is manufactured in 18k Rose Gold.

The dial underlines the more traditional direction of this timepiece. The dial is white and it has a sandblasted finish. As decoration, the indexes are adorned with a touch of gold, which raise the contrast in a subtle way.

 

 

Both watch variants are covered with Sapphire crystal top with anti-reflection coating inside and outside and are splash resistant (1atm water resistance).

The watches are powered by the fabulous ROCS 1 module. The Ressence Orbital Convex System is based on the well-known and robust ETA2824-4 calibre. The technical solution of Ressence to display time still amazes us after seven years from the release. The ETA movement is stripped of the “unnecessary” components and reinvented. From an automatic movement with date module and central coaxial hands, the calibre ROCS is heavily modified into a hand wound mechanism with animated mono-surfaced time display with weekdays.

 

Who is Ressence?

In 2010, the industrial designer Benoît Mintiens launched Ressence Watches with a unique patented display composed of orbiting single surface discs and rings that indicate the hours, minutes, seconds and days of the week. In January 2011, the SERIES ONE watch was awarded by the Geneva Time Exhibition with the second prize (and jury mention) in the Super Watch Awards. In 2013 TYPE 3 won Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève Horological Revelation prize. In total, the brand spoiled the public with Type 1, Type 3, a dive watch named Type 5 and an almost square-shaped case for TYPE 1² “Squared”.
