Commentary
The Sixties Collection is one of the which has been in the mainstay of the Glashütte Original lineup for a number of years. The classical looking watch is very elegant and has become a classic. We have covered various versions of the collection, including the Chronograph editions. But the collection has always have had the three hand watches with central seconds hand. For the first time, the watch is now available with a subsidiary seconds hand shown in a sub-dial at 6 o’clock. This makes for a much more traditional and classical look to the watch when compared to the more contemporary aesthetic of the sweep seconds hand.
The rest of the watch remains mostly the same, including the bombé style dial, the markings with 12/3/9 in stylised Arabic numerals. The regular 6 numeral in the same fashion which is present in the center seconds versions is now replaced by the small seconds sub-dial. The dial is in a galvanic silver opaline with transfer printed 12/3/9 numerals as well as the branding information. The 5 second markers on the sub-dial as well as the minute markers on the main dial are also in black print. The minute markers are punctuated by appliqué rose gold bar markers at 5 minute intervals.
We will receive the watch for a hands-on comprehensive review, currently scheduled for sometime after 20th June, 2023. And will report back with additional information, wear impressions and more photographs then.

Premiere for the Sixties Small Second
Homage to a decade full of originality
PRESS RELEASE June 2023
The 1960s were bursting with creative energy. People experimented with colours, shapes and sounds, creating original, timeless classics in the process. Once again, the designers at Glashütte Original have drawn inspiration from this decade and created a timepiece that captures the spirit of the Sixties and transports it into the present. Fitted with a matt green alligator leather strap, the new Sixties Small Second celebrates the idea of timeless originality and lets the spotlight fall on the small seconds display.
The times are changing
The 1960s made a deep impression on our society. Their legacy in music, fashion and architecture can be seen every day, everywhere in the world. But miniskirts and bell-bottom trousers, rock music and shag carpets were more than just casual accessories – they were the signature of a new generation. It was all about self-expression, the desire for change and expanding one’s horizons. Today they are all second nature to Glashütte Original.
Creativity, originality and finding new paths – these values from the Sixties still inspire the watchmaker, today and every day. The new Sixties Small Second combines both worlds with style and precision.
A new arrival with character
The Sixties models have been an integral part of the Glashütte Original Vintage Collection for years. Whether as a three-hand model or with Panorama Date, as a chronograph or a colourful limited edition: these design classics have won fans around the world, who love their subtle retro look. Now, for the first time, the Saxon manufactory presents this elegant timekeeper complete with a small second. In this new version the fastest of the three hands has a stage of its own, thanks to a separate display at 6 o’clock.
This small second is set within the galvanic silver dial and decorated with a fine vinyl-type finish. The hands are colour-matched to the 42-mm case in rose gold, as are the indexes and numerals, whose typeface references the 1960s. The sapphire crystal, which is anti-reflective on both sides offers superb legibility, its domed shape echoed in the lightly curved form of the dial and hands.
The matt green Louisiana alligator leather strap enhances the fashionable Sixties design, its deep green hue lending a fresh touch to the classic retro look.
The right rhythm
Inside the watch is an intricate automatic movement, elaborately hand-crafted in the brand’s own workshops. The 39-60 manufactory calibre beats at 28,800 half-oscillations per hour, driving the hour, minute and small second displays reliably and precisely. Its individual components feature refined decorative finishes, including Glashütte stripes, bevelled edges, and polished screws. Together with the skeletonized rotor and its signature double-G logo, these exquisite details can be admired in all their glory through the specially formed sapphire crystal case back, which wraps comfortably around the wrist.
Proud to be the Original #PTBTO
The new Sixties Small Second will be available worldwide at Glashütte Original Boutiques and from selected retailers, starting on June 15, 2023.
