Ask Me Anything: The A. Lange & Söhne Pour le Mérite

The Chief Editor ran an Ask Me Anything on his Instagram account @peterdeployant recently, taking advantage of and experimenting with Instagram’s new “Ask a question” feature on IGStory. And here is a compilation of some of the questions he received and answered. The question: Ask me anything on the A. Lange & Söhne Pour le Mérite.

Credentials: Peter Chong

The Chief Editor is an authority on Lange and German timepieces, and in particular the A. Lange & Söhne Pour le Mérite series. He published a book – A. Lange & Söhne: The Pour le Mérite Collection in 2011. The book is detailed with the history of A. Lange & Söhne and packs information not found elsewhere on the Pour le Mérite Collection. Perhaps it is apt that he hosts the question.

We used the photographs which are screenshots of his answers on his IGS:

Q1: Which is your favourite Lange Pour le Mérite and which is the least?

The Lange Pour le Mérite Tourbillon Ref. 701 holds a special place in his heart, being the first in the series. The Ref, 701 was announced in Lange’s historic return on 24 October 1994 as part of a four watch collection: The Lange 1, Arkade and Saxonia were the others.

At the time of writing, Lange has added another Pour le Mérite to the collection, making five. The latest addition was added in SIHH 2017 as the Lange Tourbograph Perpetual Pour le Mérite.

Q2: What is the dial material of the Pour le Mérite watches?

Q3: Does the fusée and chain improve precision?

Q4: What are your thoughts on the Lange pricing strategy?

Q5: Would you recommend buying one pre-owned? What about service?
