Today’s Watchscape exploration is a on the iconic and extremely difficult to obtain Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5711/1A in stainless steel.
This photograph is of a collector piece, and not a safe queen. The watch is well loved and worn, and bears some marks of this. Dirt, scratches and smudges adorn its surface, and the owner wears it proudly.
The dial is blue, but due to the anti-reflective coating on the sapphire glass, can appear at certain angles to be a brighter or duller blue, as can be seen by comparing the photograph above with the photographs
Recent black market activity has seen prices gone through the roof. A quick search on Chrono 24, shows that as of today, asking prices for black/grey Like New In Box with papers hover around S$ 100,000. The current retail price is S$39,300 inclusive of GST.
In a November 2018 sale by Phillips, a mid-2018 example of the Nautilus Ref. 5711/1A retailed by Tiffany and signed on the dial by the retailer, blew the record books selling at CHF 125,000! While it is true that the double signature partly accounts for the high price, we think the difficulty to get any 5711/1A is perhaps part of the reason.

Owned the white dial for 2 years now and it has really been an excellent piece!
Maybe it’s just the angle but gosh that looks tight.
PS I remember not long ago when they almost couldn’t give the white down version away… Those days are over.
I was just thinking that it didn’t look none too comfortable!
haha…but it is…its the angle of my wrist while trying to balance a heavy camera/lens with the other.
