Three new Nomos Ahoi Atlantic watches

New: Nomos Ahoi Atlantic – Summer 2022 Releases

Retail price for the new Nomos Ahoi Atlantic are: Ref. 557 40mm, no date EUR 3140, Ref. 558 40mm with date at EUR 3620 and the Ref. 567 neomatic in 36mm at EUR 3240.

Commentary

The Ahoi Atlantic was released in Baselworld 2013, and elaborated as a collection in 2014. In 2017, the range was further expanded with the Aqua series with a smaller case equipped with the neomatic movement. The Ahoi collection is Nomos’s do anything, wear everywhere watch, with 200m of water resistance, and an impressively clean aesthetics even though the watch is a tool watch. This novelty is a line replacement of the release models with new dial accents. The versions carrying the update are the Ahoi Atlantic, Ahoi Datum Atlantic, and Ahoi neomatik Atlantic. The Atlantic, which refers to the dial colour now sports a blue which is deeper and less grey than the previous models.

As the name implies, the novelties are: a three hand time only in 40mm Ref. 557 with the Caliber DUW 5001, a date model also in 40mm Red 558 with caliber DUW 5101 and a smaller H/M/S 36mm model Ref. 567 with the neomatic caliber DUW 3001.

The movements have in-house Nomos automatics, with and without date function, and an extra-slim automatic – the neomatik – in a slightly smaller diameter. None of these calibers are new, and already exist in the current Ahoi Atlantic and other Nomos collections.

The novelties (Ref. 557, 558, 567) introduces a new white typography and rhodium plated hands (in place of the rose gold plated) used on the earlier Atlantic dials . The dials on the Ref. 552, 553 and 561 were rose gold over blue.

Also changed is the Superluminova used, which is now yellow in a fresh green outline. The older models are grey dots with a rose gold outline. The Superluminova used is white, with a green glow. And in addition to the hands, the lume is also applied to the numerals instead of just the dot hour markers.

The slim case with its elegant crown guard is rated to 200m water resistance, remains in polished stainless steel . Nomos recommends it for swimming.

Also unchanged is the retail prices for all models. The new Ahoi Alantic may be seen as a facelift, offering a brighter and fresher aesthetic. The outgoing model is perhaps a bit more chic, with the touch of rose gold accents. But the new watches have a more direct, clearer presentation which may appeal to the younger demographic. We think it is perhaps even more elegant and yet sporty, underlining the all rounder concept for the Ahoi series.

Sports watches come in all shapes and sizes. Classic watch models are a dime a dozen. But watches that compellingly unite the two are few and far between. A typical feature of NOMOS watches has always been that they can be worn to work or any social occasion, day in and day out; Ahoi Atlantic now adds the sporty aspect.

Ahoi Atlantic, Ahoi date Atlantic and Ahoi neomatik Atlantic are the full names of these watches. They are waterproof – up to 200 meters. While the first two are driven by the in-house DUW 5001 caliber and DUW 5101 date movement in a slightly larger case, the smaller Ahoi neomatik Atlantic runs on the new, particularly slim automatic technology from NOMOS Glashütte. All three feature a textile strap which is woven specially for NOMOS Glashütte in France.
