Deployant decides to roam the streets to find some interesting watches on individuals in Singapore. Here’s to our first street interview with the owners of the intriguing watches that we have spotted!
Spot the Watch: Spotted on the Thread
For those that have been following our Thread, we have been approaching individuals with interesting watches on the street of Singapore for interviews! It seems like we have managed to connect with quite a number of interesting individuals with interesting and sometimes expensive timepieces.
Now here’s a collation of watches and a little bit of background of the owners. Frankly, a mechanical and to a certain extend a well maintained quartz timepiece always have a beautiful story behind it that smart watches cannot write. (as it’s deemed obsolete when the hardware no longer supports the software and is outdated as soon as the new smart watch is out)
Honestly, when we approached the owner of the respective watches, there is always a story behind it, it’s always a personal one that will stay with one for life. E.G. Writer Stanley’s Rolex Cellini and Friend of Deployant Terence Chan‘s Father’s Rolex 6694 that withstood the test of time or even Serene Chua‘s philosophy of milestone watches.
We strive to do this more often and certainly look forward to seeing more of our readers on the street! Without further ado, let’s begin with the 6 street interviews that we have done.
Alex, British Expat wristed with a Rolex Explorer II ref 16570 Polar Dial
Alex is a British expat that we met while having our weekend coffee at Kōhī Roastery & Coffee Bar in Joo Chiat, Singapore. It was a striking watch that he has as most Rolex Explorer II will be on an oyster bracelet but in this instance, Alex decided to have it on a Nato Strap like Deployant’s favourite spy James Bond due to the crazy heat and humidity. He mentioned that after getting it on nato strap, it was way more comfortable and it could be matched with his OOTD (outfit of the day)
Unknown Lady wristed with a Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph ref 26331ST.OO.1220ST.01
While our Editor in Chief, Peter was out being his foodie self, he spotted a lady eating at the cheapest 1 star Michelin Star Hawker, Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodles. No stories on this one but damn! Cheapest Michelin Star noodles with one of the most wanted model in the Holy Trinity.
Abhijit, Jakarta based British Expat in the Telecommunication Industry wristed with a Ressence Type 5
As some of us in Deployant are avid road cyclist, we would usually roll out on Saturday morning for a coffee ride. On this one particular Saturday while enjoying a cuppa joe at Five Oars in Tanjong Pagar, we spotted Abhijit who was visiting Singapore for a business trip with a gorgeous Ressence Type 5. He mentioned that he bought the watch as he was amazed by Ressence and how they constructed the watch.

Chief Editor Peter is an avid cyclist and he had a quick meet and greet with famed cyclist Mark Cavendish during the Singapore Tour de France Prudential Singapore Criterium 2023. Mark was spotted with piece unique that was specially created for him.
Travis, Owner of Apirary Singapore wristed with a Rolex Oyster Precision ref. 9083
Travis is the one of the owner of Apirary Singapore a really popular ice cream joint that serves up amazing ice cream, one of writer Stanley’s favourite is the blue milk. When we were ordering the blue milk ice cream, we cannot help but notice the piece on Travis. He mentioned that the Rolex Precision is his latest acquisition from a Japanese seller on Chrono24. He is a collector of mainly vintage watches.
Sheng, Owner of Meat Co Singapore wristed with IWC Pilot ‘s Watch Chronograph 41MM Top Gun ceratanium ref IW388106
Sheng is the owner of Meat Co. and when we were doing our grocery shopping at Cluny Court, he was attending to us showing us the variety of meat, sausages and cold cuts from his store while wristed with the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Ceratanium. Writer Stanley was so distracted from the watch that he told Sheng to take a pause on showing the meats just to admire his watch. Sheng then shared that he is a avid watch collector. What an interesting experience from buying meat to getting acquainted just because of watches!
Conclusion
It is surprising in the Garden City of Singapore where it has a population of almost 6 Million is ranked 6th in the 2023 full year of the world distribution of Swiss watch exports by the Federation of Swiss Watch Industry. We would expect the watch community to grow in a healthy and steady pace in Singapore so we would be able to bring more of such content to you. We certainly hope to be able to interview more individuals on the street! Here’s also a shoutout, whoever has an interesting collecting of watches, please feel free to write in the comments section and we might just feature you!
