Yema reaches out to their past and presents the Superman Heritage 63, a tribute to their original Superman created in 1963. Limited edition of 1000 pieces, both in 39mm and 41mm.
The Yema brand is a creation of a French watchmaker Henri-Louis Belmont in 1948. In 1963, it introduced the Superman, which had a lockable bezel and a 300m water resistant rating, and was promoted as a “mass market” deep diver.
This new watch is a tribute to the original. The watch was to feature a rotating bezel which was bi-directional and non-clicking. A special design in the form of a bracket with a window cut out is located at 3 o’clock overlaid over the top of the bezel. This bracket can be made to clamp down on the bezel by the action of screwing down the crown, locking bezel and making the start time of the dive secure.
Yema Superman Heritage 63
The new Superman Heritage 63 is a collaboration with Jason Washington, an International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame honoree and PADI Ambassador. Jason is famous within the diving community for his role in spearheading and creating CULL, the Cayman United Lionfish League.
The Superman Heritage 63 is water resistant to 300m, and equipped with the Yema bezel lock mechanism. The new model features the same “Skin Diver” and but the seconds hand is a “Shovel”style instead of the rectangular box used in the original.
The tribute watch also features a sapphire bezel to reproduce the effect of the bakelite used in the original.
We are looking forward to receiving a loaner unit for testing as well as photography and detailed evaluation soon, and will publish our hands-on review when we do.
