Glashütte Original and MEISSEN unite two pillars of Saxon craftsmanship in the Senator MEISSEN collection—a trio of limited-edition timepieces that blend horological precision with porcelain artistry. Commentary
The Senator MEISSEN collection displays the classic yet exquisite art of porcelain painting. Rather than overwhelming the dial with decorative flourishes, Glashütte Original allows MEISSEN’s porcelain artistry to take center stage. Each dial is fired at 1,400°C and painted by hand, with Roman numerals rendered in delicate brushwork. The hand painted roman numerals and the use of a dark blue Louisiana alligator strap reinforce the collection’s formal character, while the exhibition caseback offers a clear view of the movement.

The watches are powered by the calibre 36-16, a 4 Hz automatic movement with a 100-hour power reserve and silicon balance spring. While not chronometer-certified, the movement features bi-directional winding and a bayonet mounting system for enhanced shock resistance.

The case dimensions—40mm diameter, 10.23mm thickness, and 5 bar water resistance—strike a balance between classical proportions and modern wearability. The Collage edition adds visual complexity through layered porcelain motifs, while the Mystic Maison variants maintain a minimalist elegance in either white or celadon green.

At US$30,300 and $36,400 respectively, these watches are priced well above the standard Senator Excellence in gold at $19,400, a premium for MEISSEN’s porcelain dials. The Collage’s ultra-limited run of 8 pieces positions it as a collector’s item, while the Mystic Maison editions offer broader access without sacrificing exclusivity. Given the price premium over the standard Senator model, it would have been more compelling if the movement finishing on these art editions had been elevated to match their artistic ambition.
