Stowa Verus GMT Chrono Black Forest Limited Edition
We especially like the dial design, with the large numerals and centered subdial counter. Despite the utilitarian style, the dial has many interesting features like contrasting orange tone hands. To note, the subdial counter and hour numerals seem enlarged to fill up as much space on the dial, for maximum legibility – and no logo. This is rather unique to this watch; a clever yet functional way to differentiate design.
A thin bezel with the 24 hour markers maximizes the dial, while keeping the case at a modest 41mm. The dial and hands are treated with Super-LumiNova BGW9, offering visibility in low light conditions with a striking blue glow. The pilot style utilitarian look paired with the all-black case makes the watch an attractive military style accessory.
The watch’s design is a nod to the Black Forest, reflecting Stowa’s roots and the region’s watchmaking heritage.

With our GMT watch, you can navigate through several time zones with ease and elegance. The Red Dot Design Award winner from 2021 now comes in a modern, matt blasted and black DLC-coated 41 mm case. Contemporary Pilot’s watch look – strictly limited to 10 pieces worldwide!
The motto of the design: reduction. The Verus GMT Chrono Black Forest Limited deliberately avoids the permanent small seconds and the 12-hour counter. This allows the original pilot’s watch design to be retained. This design innovation certainly helped the watch – then in a steel case – to win the Red Dot Design Award in 2021. Also very discreet: the engraved 24-hour display on the slanted case bezel, also coated in black DLC. Despite the modern design, the standards of all pilot’s watches have been retained, such as luminous numerals and the luminous triangle (arrow) at 12 o’clock – an aid to orientation at night.
During the day, the time in the second time zone is also easy to read thanks to the red-tipped hand. A large, modern and clearly designed dial makes it easy to read the time, even at night! An all-round fresh and strikingly modern look for a GMT chrono!
The luminosity of the numerals and hands is guaranteed by the use of Superluminova BGW9 luminous material. This has a white shade in daylight. In the dark, the elements turn to a light blue color. The luminosity is approx. 95 percent in direct comparison with Superluminova C3. The luminous duration of Superluminova BGW9 is longer than that of Superluminova C1 and Superluminova C3.
The Verus GMT Chrono Black Forest Limited is powered by the Valjoux 7754 chronograph movement. The automatic chronograph movement with 25 jewels has a unidirectional winding, ball-bearing rotor, makes 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of approx. 48 hours. The cam-operated chronograph mechanism is controlled by 2 pushers.
The movement is equipped with an Incabloc shock protection system and has the following functions: Hour, minute, central second, 30-minute counter, stop seconds and a 24-hour hand with two-zone mechanism (GMT). The date display at 6 o’clock with quick-change function is standard for optimum everyday practicality. The choice of high-quality components guarantees an uncomplicated, durable and robust chronograph. Each of the 10 limited edition watches is created with great care at the company headquarters in Pforzheim and therefore bears the “Made in Germany” label. Each one harks back to the long history of the STOWA brand, but is technically up to date. The best guarantee for a valuable investment in a timepiece with history and a future.
History and development of the GMT function
Throughout the history of mechanical wristwatches, a suitable complication has been developed for every application. For example, the GMT function was developed for pilots. The abbreviation GMT stands for “Greenwich Mean Time”, which was originally the time standard to which all other local times were based. With the introduction of intercontinental flights, traveling through time zones, it became difficult to determine what time it was. In order to keep track of two time zones, pilots began to wear GMT watches.
Anyone who travels abroad a lot these days must always adjust their watch to a different time zone. It is also useful to know whether it is night or day when making calls to other countries. The market research institute Chronolytics has evaluated the most popular complications. The GMT function ranked among the top 5. Sporty and elegant, GMT watches today are the perfect companion for anyone who feels at home in more than one time zone.
For all frequent flyers and cosmopolitans: GMT watches can display two time zones simultaneously – so you always know what time it is at home and at your current location.
The hour and minute hands are used to indicate the wearer’s time, while the red GMT hand on the STOWA Verus GMT Chrono Black Forest Limited indicates a reference time of choice. This GMT hand runs half as fast as the primary hour hand for this purpose and the bezel with the numbers from one to twenty-four helps to distinguish between morning and evening when reading the time.
