Commentary
The Tonda was given a new lease of life when Guido Terreni took over as CEO in January 2021. Guido was the key figure behind the release of Bvlgari’s very successful Octa series, and has taken quick steps to revive the ailing collection lineup in Parmigiani. The release of the new lineup for the Tonda PF, the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante, the Tonda PF Skeleton, the Tonda PF Tourbillon. This new lineup for Tonda has breathed new life into the collection. The new guilloché is remarkable in its simplicity and perfection. Small enough to just about appear as a flat dial at distance, but appearing as a magnificent pattern at close quarters.
The new Tonda PF line is now attracting high interest, and is going the way of the waiting list syndrome watches, the likes of the Patek Philippe Nautilus and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. This is for a watch, in its earlier guise was a lukewarm commercial success at its best day out. Great work in not only the redesign, but also in Guido’s stance against the grey and black markets. The new Tonda PF currently is not found to be sold in such murky waters, and remain the purvue of the authorised dealers, unlike its predecessors, which often appear at high discounts.
In a recent meeting with Guido in Singapore, he told us that he will not forget the smaller watch market, including watches for ladies. And he has shown his sincerity with this release of 36mm automatic Tonda PF. The novelty is not limited to feminine wrists, but are also suitable to grace the smallerwrists of some men.
The new watch features a new automatic movement- the Caliber PF770 in place of the PF703 found in the 40mm version. Retail price is also slightly less than the 40mm which retails for SGD 36,160 instead of SGD30,600.

Vintage flavour for a contemporary timepiece
Slightly reduced in size, retaining the emblematic wide dial opening, and hosting a new in-house automatic movement, the Tonda PF Automatic 36mm is the brand’s affirmative response to the many requests for a version of this timepiece in a format adapted to a slenderer wrist. It also speaks to the growing demand for smaller sizes and the “vintage” flavour they evoke.
The Tonda PF Automatic is the purest embodiment of the brand’s spirit. Its assertive identity is expressed through complimentary values of design discretion, a wide dial opening, subtle chromatic variations, and uncompromising finishes. All these values persist in the new Tonda PF Automatic, reinvented today with a diameter of 36mm.
The latest generation of the Tonda PF Automatic proudly upholds the stylistic codes that Parmigiani Fleurier so deftly established for its predecessor: fluid and harmonious integration of the case and bracelet in 18ct rose gold or steel, knurled bezel, and finely guilloché minimalist dials with baguette-cut diamond hour markers set invisibly. Three new colour variations debut to mark the transition to this new format: Silver Sand and Warm Grey for the steel versions with a platinum bezel and Deep Ruby for the full 18-ct rose-gold version- sobriety, discreet elegance in line with the chromatic palette favoured by Parmigiani Fleurier.
The three new Tonda PF Automatics beat to the rhythm of Calibre PF770. In accordance with the standards enforced at Parmigiani Fleurier, this new movement, developed to fit into the new 36mm case and endowed with a 60-hour power reserve, meets the highest finishing requirements, including bevelled steel and decorated surfaces. The 22ct rose gold, skeletonized oscillating weight is adorned with the PF logo, floating in the centre of a sapphire plate.
Far beyond offering a simple reduction in diameter, the Tonda PF Automatic 36mm broadens the scope of the collection while remaining perfectly in harmony with its DNA, which transcends the traditional categorization of timepiece genres.
