Commentary
The latest release by Parmigiani Fleurier is aimed at women who appreciates the finest things in life and has appreciation for intricacies especially in their timepiece. We managed to have a sneak peek of the watch during the Deployant X Parmigiani event in May. Our esteemed guests were blown away by it and some ladies even said “It was love at first sight”.
During the event, Theodore Panos the head of Parmigiani Fleurier for South East Asia and Australia shared on why the brand is the epitome of valuing the finest details. Parmigiani Fleurier is currently owned by the Sandoz Family Foundation of Novartis fame. The maison is not as simple as many would think. The Sandoz Foundation posses five artisanal companies (known as the five fingers) that manufacture the components are and are suppliers to the brand Parmigiani Fleurier (known as the palm).
In this latest release of 3 watches in the Tonda PF 36mm range, our favourite has to be the Rose Gold Set with Sand Gold dial. The Tonda PF 36mm range uses ethically sourced diamond set 18ct rose gold case and bracelet. The case of the watch is made by one of the “five fingers” which is Les Artisans Boîtiers SA.
Elwin, the “second finger” is a company specialising in bar turning used for manufacture of the turning components like pinions. They have even developed lathe specifically designed for the watchmaking industry to meet its precise and demanding needs.
Without further digressing, we move on to the Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché dial with hand-applied rhodium plated appliques set with 12 baguette diamonds on the 36mm Tonda. Each dial is painstakingly hand engraved by the master dial maker in the “third finger” artisanal company known as Quadrance et Habillage.
As we continue to admire the gorgeous hand engraved dial, we cannot help but wonder what is powering the hands of this gorgeous horological jewelry. The PF770 automatic winding manufacture movement with 60 hours power reserve ensures that the hands display the time correctly. The PF770 is done by the “fourth finger” which is known as the Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. The artisans in the manufacture ensured that the movement is beautifully finished with Côtes de Genève and bevelled edges. Both of which is finished by hands. The details are proudly on display when we turn the watch around.
While we are staring at the see though caseback, we cannot help but notice the 22ct skeletonized rose gold oscillating weight which is a rare commodity with many manufacturers in the current era. The sketonized rose gold oscillating weight is the main reason that the main spring is winded up in an automatic movement.
The regulator that regulates the energy release from the main spring is the Balance Spring. This component is build by the “fifth finger” which is the renown Atokalpa which produces all the elements required for the regulating components and gears for Parmigiani Fleurier.
