New onyx dials for Lange Saxonia Thin in Honeygold and Platinum
The prices for both watches are POA (Price on Application), as is now the custom with Lange watches. The references are each limited to 200 pieces.

This latest addition is to the Saxonia Thin family, which we have seen grown from its launch in 2016 we covered here, and with a hands on review here. The launch model was offered in white gold or pink gold case measuring 40 mm in diameter and 5.9 mm in height, both with an argenté dial. A 37mm model was released in pink gold with argenté dial in 2017, and we carried the detailed review here followed up with a 1 on 1 comparison with the Patek Philippe Ref. 511 in this article. This pink gold 37mm model carried a very competitive price of SGD 21.4k, making it one of the best buys in the entry level high end watch market. This was followed up with a white gold, adventurine (copper blue) dial version of the 37mm Saxonia Thin in 2017 priced at SGD 31.5k. Reviewed here.
And now with this release, the models are in Honeygold and platinum in cases measuring 40mm, but with a height of 6.2mm instead of the original 40mm version of 5.9mm. This case thickness is needed to accommodate the black onyx dial.
The watch is exactly unchanged from previous versions, except for the case material, dial material and the small case size differences. The movement remains the same Caliber L093.1.
Though the pricing is POA, we were told the pricing, but asked not to publish it. Though we dislike this policy, we will respect the wishes of A. Lange & Söhne. All we can say is that this new pricing is considerably more than all the earlier examples. It also commands a premium over the existing and currently available Saxonia Thin in pink gold or white gold, both with argenté dials, at SGD 34.2k.

Now the special editions in 750 honey gold (HONEYGOLD®) and 950 platinum with a jet-black, glossy onyx dial enrich the range of SAXONIA THIN models with two new refined versions, each one limited to 200 pieces.
The lucid design reduced to the essence describes the characteristic design of the SAXONIA THIN in a nutshell: with its two slender hands and appliques, the dial is totally focused on the indication of time in hours and minutes.
The harmonious face of the watch is the result of precisely adapted proportions. The details reveal the effort that was invested in designing the timepiece: hence, the A. Lange & Söhne designers dedicated a large part of their work to optimising the length and shape of the hands, to the intricate detailing of the baton appliques and their polished chamfers as well as to the sleek, three-part case, giving the SAXONIA THIN its characteristic air of lightness.
Rare radiance in two new colour combinations
The onyx-faced dial that graces the new model versions endows the aesthetic composition with a particularly noble appearance. Rarely used in precision watchmaking, the gemstone mesmerises with its jet-black, glossy surface. In the 750 honey-gold version, the dark hue perfectly matches the warm lustre of the precious metal. Conversely, it provides a fascinating contrast in the version of cool-toned 950 platinum, making the appliques and hands distinctly stand out against the background of the dial.
An eminent sense of style
The distinctive personality of the SAXONIA THIN is based on the design principle “Less is more”. It comes to the fore in the especially slender case in Lange’s exclusive honey gold or 950 platinum, measuring a scant 6.2 millimetres in height, paired with a diameter of 40 millimetres. Thanks to the typical curvature of the sleek lugs, the two-hand watch assures a snug fit on the wrist and can be slipped under a shirt cuff.
A black glossy alligator leather strap complements the elegant appearance of the two special editions of the SAXONIA THIN. Regardless of whether at a business meeting during the day or dinner in the evening – without fail, it expresses a sense of style.
A manufacture movement crafted to the highest standards
As is the case with every Lange timepiece, the SAXONIA THIN is equipped with a dedicated manufacture movement crafted in-house: the manually wound movement, finished to the highest standards of Lange’s watchmaking artistry, can be admired through the sapphire-crystal caseback. The technical particularities of the manufacture calibre L093.1 with a height of merely 2.9 millimetres include a flat mainspring barrel: despite its compact architecture, it boasts a maximum power reserve of 72 hours.
Elegant design – extending into the movement
The elegant appearance of the SAXONIA THIN is reflected in even the smallest details of the manufacture calibre. “The proportion between crown wheel and ratchet wheel, the prominent shape of the stop-click spring, the arched lines of the three-quarter plate, the size of the flat polished endpiece, even the position of the blued screws around the gold chatons are meticulously harmonised with a view to mechanics as well as to the aesthetic overall impression,” explains Antony de Haas, Director of Product Development. “With their combination of gold, ruby red and cornflower blue, the three screwed gold chatons additionally provide a striking colourful accent.
