Commentary
This new addition to Montblanc’s new (the collection began in 2022) diveing watch collection is inspired by a Chinese mountain, instead of the launch editions of the Mer de Glace of Mont-Blanc Massif which were available in a choice of blue, black or green dials.
The watch remains more or less the same as the release models, with the exception that the novelty is a limited edition of only 285 pieces, and has a new red dial and a 3D coloured engraving on Minya Konka at sunset. This engraving is a special technique, as the metal is structured by laser to create a 3D relief. The movement remains the same caliber MB 24.17 which is a derivative of the Sellita SW200.
The new Minya Konka is released at a premium over the standard non-limited version. As a comparison, the Green version retails for SGD 1,100 less.
Release information
In 2022, Montblanc unveiled its first diving watch collection, Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Automatic Date. This new watch family was launched with a choice of blue, black, or green dials inspired by glacial ice from the Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) on the Mont-Blanc Massif. Enriching the collection, Montblanc is now unveiling its latest Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Minya Konka Limited Edition [万宝 龙1858系列潜水腕表 贡嘎瑞霞 中国限量款 (全球285枚)] with a new red dial that captures the scene of the highest mountain in Sichuan province, China, as the sun goes down.
The new Minya Konka edition comes with a black uni-directional ceramic bezel with the first 15 minutes in a contrasting dark grey and a 3D colored engraving on the caseback that features a picture of the Minya Konka at sunset to match the shade of the watch. This image is achieved using a special engraving technique seen in Montblanc watchmaking. The engraving begins with the metal being structured by laser to create a 3D relief image that provides depth and realism thanks to a series of matte and shiny finishes that create a special coloring contrast. The case back is also engraved with the Chinese inscription ‘中国四川 贡嘎瑞霞’ (China Sichuan “China Sichuan ‘Gong Ga Rui Xia’”.
For this new limited edition of 285 pieces – a number representing a tenth of the altitude of the glacier of the Minya Konka that sits at 2850 meters – each timepiece comes with both a stainless steel interchangeable and adjustable bracelet and a black rubber strap with a red outline. Stainless steel and rubber were also the materials of choice thanks to their durability in a water environment.
ISO 6425 Norm for Diving
Like the other models in the Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea line, this Limited Edition timepiece is a diving instrument, conforming to the ISO 6425 norm for diving watches. Each timepiece has also undergone the Montblanc Laboratory Test to ensure that it is shock, magnetic, temperature, and water-resistant (approx. up to 30 bar) and that its fasteners are reinforced for maximum security.
The timepiece also needs to be visible in all conditions. For this, Montblanc has incorporated white Super-LumiNova® on the hands, indexes, and dot at 12 o’clock on the ceramic bezel, which all glow in a luminescent shade of blue in low light, keeping with the glacial theme.

The timepiece comes in a 41mm stainless steel case and is powered by an automatic movement that indicates the hour, minute, seconds, and a date at three o’clock. The timepiece also comes with a recycled and 100% recyclable watch pouch so that the wearer is even better equipped and ready for their next adventure.
The Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Minya Konka Limited Edition will be available exclusively in selected Montblanc boutiques.
