New: Laco Ausburg Polar 42 and Aachen Polar 42

The Laco Ausburg Polar 42 and Aachen Polar 42 retails for EUR 440 inclusive of VAT.

Commentary

The two novelties are based on the Ausburg and Aachen collection, but executed in a new brilliant matte white dial. Both feature metallic blue markers and thermally blued hands. The difference between the two models are the dial styles, both styles which are originally specified by the Luffwaffe, as Type A and Type B. See the discussion on these dials on our Laco Munchen Erbstück article for details on these two dial styles.

The movement used is the Laco 2S, which is a manifestation of the ubiquitous Miyota 82S0, but Laco says that an upgrade the Laco 31 (Miyota 8315) with thermally blued screws and a higher power reserve of 60 hours instead of 42. This upgrade will cost EUR 55.

Release information

It is often only nuances that give a classic a completely new look. But sometimes it has to be something completely new. Thus, the watch manufacturer Laco presents a new expressive variant and fashionable interpretation of its classic pilot watches with the new Augsburg Polar and Aachen Polar models. Limited to 250 pieces each, the timepieces surprise with shimmering metallic indexes on a polar-white background. A modern edition for lovers of clarity and cool objectivity.

The two „Polar“ models are already the third limited edition in the mechanical entry-level segment of the traditional brand. After elegant timepieces with a taupe dial and a modern version in olive, the warm natural colors now change to a cool white dial. Accompanied by a harmonious interplay of thermally blued hands and blue-metallic glossy indexes, these timepieces immerse themselves in the sphere of the Arctic.

Depending on the incidence of light, the bright reflections and the color change of the indices from deep blue to azure are reminiscent of the fascinating play of light between the dark polar sea and glittering icebergs. Hands and numerals are coated with the luminous material Superluminova C3 Blue Line, which appears in a delicate shade of green during the day. In the dark, however, they shine in a vibrant turquoise blue – like a glow in the polar night. The brushed stainless steel case with a diameter of 42 millimeters rounds off the cool understatement with its metallic sheen.

The Augsburg POLAR follows the design of the classic type A dial and ensures clear readability with eleven Arabic numerals, the pilot‘s triangle at position 12 and central seconds. The Aachen POLAR, on the other hand, adopts the familiar type B dial of historical observation watches, which features the hour circle on the inside and the minute track on the outside. A brown calfskin strap with decorative rivets completes the classic pilot watch look.

Both models have a flat sapphire crystal, which is available with double anti-reflective coating on request. The proven Laco 2S automatic movement, based on the Miyota 82S0, can be seen through the back, which is also made of robust sapphire crystal. A stop-second function allows the time to be set precisely. Laco also offers the upgrade option to the Laco 31 (based on the Miyota 8315), which uses thermally blued screws to pick up the colour components of the hands and indexes. An additional bonus is the power reserve of more than 60 hours.

The Augsburg Polar 42 and Aachen Polar 42 will be available from mid-February 2023 at a recommended retail price of 440 € directly from Laco and from authorised retailers.

  1. Obviousely you hale from Europe which uses Lira. I’m in North America where we use Dollars. I don’t know the exchange rate for 440L to Dollars. Seems like a manageable amount. A Great Deal I recognise! Ofcourse the customs fees are something else.

    • Joe, Lira was the currency in Italy before Euro, and is now defunct.

The currency quoted is in Euro. You can easily look up today’s exchange rate to convert from Euro to USD.
