The lowdown: what is new
This is a line extension to the base is the use Magician which re-launched the maison in February this year. What is new for this novelty is red and green sapphire cases as well as grand feu enamel on the dials. Even the sapphire case is not new. These cases were released a bit later in WWG26 with two versions of the Atrivm in White Sapphire with an 18k Rose Gold dial and Blue Sapphire in an Aventurine dial. Atrivm being a reference to the architectural term which refers to a large open-air or skylit covered indoor space that passes through one or more floors and enclosed within the building. The common English term used is atrium.
The movement is the same ultra-complicated triple axis tourbillon with the hours and minutes shown on a sub-dial. This caliber 1831 is a manual winding movement conceived and developed from scratch and fully assembled and finished in their atelier in Noiraigue in Neuchâtel. The watch also indicates the date in the center of the dial and a 24 hour day/night indicator. The dial layout is thus also unchanged. Of course, with the triple axis tourbillon taking up the entire left of the dial at 9 o’clock as a spherical structure with moving internal parts, each spinning at its own pace. Spectacular.
The hour and minute sub-dial now is now a translucent grand feu enamel in the respective colour matching the case. And from the visuals we received, this looks exceptionally magnificent. The enamel coats are translucent, and allow a peek into the texture and patterns of the metallic base of the dial.
Pricing notes
Pricing wise, the asking price of CHF 990k is a massive 300% premium over the base The Magician in a non-Atrivm titanium case, which retails at CHF 350k. To rationalise the price premium, first we examine the White Sapphire and Blue Sapphire released in WWG. Both carry a retail of CHF 900k, and both feature sapphire cases in the Atrivm design architecture. However these watches had either an 18k Rose Gold dial or an Aventurine dial. And today’s novelties have grand feu enamel dials. So we may attribute CHF 90k to this dial execution. Is this pricing justified? Only the prospective buyer can weigh the pros and cons and decide if he has the Swiss Francs to allocate to this purchase. For the rest of us, it is a mere mental adventure.
Photography notes
In our commentary on the original Magician release, we noted the quality of the images, which are submitted to us in very shallow depth of field. We are happy to report that Henri Grandjean has addressed this. The images we received this time use a higher end camera – the Fujifilm GFX 100 II with GF 120 F/4 R LM OIS lens, but also focus stacked. We see many of these images are composed of 90+ images stacked together, giving this very impressive, and high resolution image which is in focus from front to back.

For the first time, the Atrivm collection brings Grand Feu enamel – one of Haute Horlogerie’s oldest and most demanding artistic crafts -, contemporary sapphire architecture and a Swiss hand-finished manufacture movement, marking a world premiere. More than a technical or creative achievement, this deliberate union reflects Henri Grandjean & Cie’s enduring conviction that heritage is not preserved through nostalgia – it is continually reimagined for tomorrow, offering a new interpretation of contemporary Haute Horlogerie.
Conceived as a natural extension of The Magician Collection, the Atrivm was born from a simple ambition: not to reveal more of the movement, but to remove everything that separates it from the observer. Sapphire dissolves visual boundaries, allowing the architecture to gradually disappear. Light flows freely through the case, transforming reflections, depth and perspective while revealing the Maison’s signature three-axis mysterious tourbillon with extraordinary clarity.
Within this transparent architecture, Grand Feu enamel introduces an entirely new dimension. Its warmth, depth and timeless character enrich the purity of sapphire, allowing this centuries-old métier d’art to converse naturally with one of its most contemporary architectural expressions. The Magician Atrivm Red explores a different architectural language. Inspired by the rich crimson tones of grand theatres, ceremonial halls and the reception rooms of history’s grand palaces, it celebrates spaces where craftsmanship, architecture and light combined to create moments of spectacle and emotion. Here again, enamel introduces a timeless artistic presence into Atrivm’s contemporary sapphire construction, creating a harmonious dialogue between centuries of savoir-faire and a distinctly modern vision of Haute Horlogerie.
Together with The Magician Atrivm Blue and The Magician Atrivm Translucent, introduced earlier this year, these latest creations complete a collection of four distinct architectural expressions.
