Commentary

The novelty is two new watches: the Naval Aviation Squadron 3 and 5. Both watches look the same on the dial side and carry the same movement. The movement is the workhorse Sellita SW200 automatic movement with what Hanhart says is regulated to their own standard of 0 to +8 seconds a day over all positions.

The only difference is the coat of arms engraved on the case back. In addition, each is available in either a fabric strap or steel bracelet for a total of 4 references. Squadron 3 is a limited edition of 150 pieces, and Squadron 5 is also a limited edition of 150 pieces.

The watch is quite impressive in that it is water resistant to 300m with a uni-directional 60 click bezel. It is also equipped with an automatic helium escape valve for saturated diving usage.

The watch looks very sturdy and very well built, with the typical strong and do-anything vibes from dive watches. Pricing strikes us as quite reasonable for a watch with this level of specification (300m and with helium escape valve, limited edition, ceramic bezel. The handsome good looks in blue with yellow accents help the case as well.

Release information

Limited to 300 pieces (150 pcs. MFG3/150 pcs. MFG5) A new special edition, limited to just 300 pieces, has been added to the collection of the Black Forest watch manufacturer Hanhart: the FLY NAVY Aerosphere. A reliable and robust watch is seldom needed as much as when flying low over the sea on a stormy night. Whether in the Arctic or the tropics, on the ocean or in the coastal mountains, naval aviation is often associated with difficult conditions. The FLY NAVY Aerosphere is precise, reliable and easy to read day and night, making it easy to fly without additional navigational aids. Precision and tradition have been highly valued by the German Navy for more than 110 years, and these maxims have also existed at Hanhart since 1882 and are reflected in this exceptional watch.

Hanhart and aviation

The significant connection between Hanhart and aviation goes back a long way in history. In aviation, automatic pilot’s watches had to withstand extreme vibrations, enormous temperature fluctuations, great differences in altitude and fluctuating weather conditions – challenges that the air force is still familiar with today.

Flying over the sea has always required the utmost precision and a keen understanding of the elements. There are few other places where the forces of nature have such a direct effect as when flying low over the sea on a stormy night, which ends with a landing on a swaying deck. The limited edition FLY NAVY Aerosphere is a reliable and precise watch and the perfect wrist companion for such challenging situations.

150 pieces each: Naval aviation squadron (in german Marinefliegergeschwader) 3 and 5

The new FLY NAVY Aerosphere combines precision and tradition with various maritime details. According to Greek mythology, the second hand shows the trident of Poseidon, the god of the sea, which can also be found on the coat of arms of the naval aviation squadron (Marinefliegergeschwader) 3 ‘Graf Zeppelin’. Either the coat of arms of the MFG3 ‘Graf Zeppelin’ or the MFG5 coat of arms is embossed on the screw-down case back and can be individually selected. To complete the unique details of the marine watch, the naval aviator command logo is depicted on the navy blue dial and on the screw-in crown of the watch.

The coats of arms embossed on the case back symbolise cohesion and solidarity. In the coat of arms of the MFG3, the affiliation to the naval aviators is symbolised by the wing and the anchor in the middle. The five stars symbolise the five virtues of fidelity, courage, broad-mindedness, reliability and endurance. The MFG5 coat of arms contains water, sea eagle, anchor and wing as elements and has been in this form since 2013. The head of the sea eagle has the meaning of maintaining sovereignty over the airspace above the sea.

The new, limited FLY NAVY Aerosphere is available in both variants 150 times each.

Outstanding comfort

The limited edition FLY NAVY Aerosphere is available with a blue Hook Strap textile strap, which ensures optimum wearing comfort for every wrist. Alternatively, the new edition is available with a stainless steel strap. The special edition is a chic watch for a relaxing beach holiday and is also a reliable timepiece for challenging tasks in the naval forces.

Rotating bezel with standard lettering, 30 ATM and helium valve The font of the numerals on the bezel, which can be rotated in one direction with 60 clicks, has been designed in standard font – this is intended to emphasise perfect legibility.

The FLY NAVY Aerosphere has a water resistance of up to 30 bar (approx. 300 meters) to ensure that it is ideally equipped for use on and in the water.

The suitability of this new watch for divers is underlined by a helium valve located on the case at 10 o’clock. This is an essential feature for deep diving.
