Commentary

The Hanhart pilot chronographs are a popular offering from the German brand with good linkages to military styled tool watches. We covered several of their offerings in releases and detailed reviews:

The base watch which is closest to this new release is their Pioneer Series Monocontrol which features the same single chronograph pusher in red ceramic at 2 o’clock to activate the chronograph (for start, stop, reset). The only exception is the new full lume dial used in the new #FliegerFriday Night Pilot, and the first in the Hanhart Pioneer series to have black DLC coating over the steel case.

In good light the dial looks very attractive in white with the slightest tinge of a beige-cream hue. But in the dark, the entire dial is illuminated in the green glow of the SuperLumiNova C3.

All other aspects of the watch remains unchanged from the standard offering which is no limited. Including the bi-compax design, the skeleton gothic style cathedral hands, the red single pusher for the chronograph. Even the movement is unchanged as the HAN3911 which is the SW500 modified by La Joux-Perret for the bi-compax arrangement, the date, with additional in-house modifications for the monopusher. We do note that though the movement remains the same HAN3911, the Hanhart documentation now states that the ébauche is the Sellita SW500 instead of the Valjoux 7750. Nevertheless, both movements are functionally identical as the SW500 is basically a clone of the 7750, and for most purposes interchangeably used.

The price that Hanhart lists for the new #FliegerFriday Night Pilot is a very fair EUR 2,490, a price which is just EUR 50 higher than the regular piece. This is particularly interesting as the new watch features a full lume, a black DLC case and is a 100 piece limited edition. Features which usually is the opportunity for manufacturers to massively increase the price.

#FliegerFriday Night Pilot: Light in the darkness

From radium to tritium to Super-LumiNova®: luminescent elements in wristwatches have been used since the early 20th century to ensure good readability even under difficult light and visibility conditions. The new #FliegerFriday Night Pilot, limited to 100 pieces, from the traditional brand Hanhart in the Black Forest, is guaranteed to bring light into the darkness with its luminescent dial.

A year ago, it was #FliegerFriday at Hanhart for the first time. The manufacturer from Gütenbach presented a limited edition chronograph that sold out in no time. The hashtag stands for starting the weekend with a pilot’s watch, to switch off and immerse yourself in passion. Now the model gets a successor: the #FliegerFriday Night Pilot.

The fully luminescent dial covered with Super-LumiNova® C3 gives the new chrono- graph a unique look, especially in the dark. The soft white dial color in daylight turns nto a strongly luminous green at night. The skeletonized black hands provide an optimal contrast to the bright dial and thus guarantee optimum readability.

The #FliegerFriday Night Pilot is manufactured with the in-house Hanhart single- pusher chronograph conversion. The stop function is operated exclusively by one pusher. This means that the start, stop and reset functions are performed with one pusher instead of the usual two. As a specialized manufacturer of chronographs, Han- hart can look back on a long history of timekeeping, with the monopusher chronograph playing a significant role.

The black DLC-coated case with red pusher completes the special design of the time- piece. Despite the new look, the typical Hanhart features are also unmistakable in this chronograph: bi-compax dial layout, large pilot’s crown and red pusher.

The Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating combines aesthetics with performance. The black gives the watch a unique character. At the same time, as the name of the DLC coating suggests, the coating is almost as hard as a diamond. Moreover, DLC coatings have excellent abrasion protection and perfect corrosion protection. Ideal for a chrono- graph that is meant to last for generations.

Behind the screwed stainless steel back, the robust automatic caliber HAN3911 (base SW 500 with Manufacture La Joux-Perret modifications for the bicompax dial and date display at 6 o’clock) ensure reliability and precision. It offers a power reserve of at least 42 hours when fully wound. Moreover, with a water-resistance of up to 10 bar/10 ATM, the new chronograph is not only suitable for use in the cockpit.

With a diameter of 42 mm and a height of 15 mm, the #FliegerFriday Night Pilot is present on the wrist, but not out of proportion. The black cowhide strap features a luminescent stitching that appears white during the day and also glows in the dark.

The new #FliegerFriday Night Pilot, limited to 100 pieces, can be ordered now for 2490 Euros including 19% VAT and will be delivered from mid-September.

  1. Good job of Hanhart and I like everything La Joux Perret is doing lately. The protruding ceramic button is a weak point to impacts.
