Commentary
This novelty is the first time Hanhart has presented the 417 in titanium, versus the traditional stainless steel. The watch is based on the Primus Pilot, which we have reviewed several times – in a bronze case, and steel as the Fly Navy, though the stated inspiration is the Primus Desert Pilot. The Desert theme is used to convey the intent for use in the Dakar Rally and Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, with the Hanhart sponsored X-raid Team on their Minis with Stephan Schott at the driver wheel.

The watches are available in exactly the same configuration, but in two case sizes of 42mm and 39mm. Both sport sand coloured, beige dial with the classical flieger markings on a bi-compax chronograph.

The signature red marker on the fluted bezel remains, but the the red pusher is now not present.

The movement remains the trusted handwound Sellita AMT5100 M, visible from the sapphire case back.

Pricing has remained at the reasonable under EUR 3k mark.
Release details
TI instead of ES: With the new 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition, Hanhart presents a 417 made of Grade 5 titanium for the first time – instead of the classic stainless steel traditionally represented by the designation “ES.” The matte finish of the case emphasizes its instrumental character and gives the chronograph a modern, technically driven aesthetic. Available in 39 mm and 42 mm, each limited to 200 pieces, this model combines historic pilot DNA with contemporary material technology and uncompromising mechanics.

The watch is powered by the hand-wound AMT 5100 caliber, a column-wheel chronograph with flyback function that stands for maximum precision and reliable performance. The sapphire crystal case back provides an unobstructed view of the complex interaction of the mechanical components.
Inspired by historic pilot chronographs, the 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition combines lightness, durability, perfect legibility and maximum wearing comfort – developed for modern explorers.
The Inspiration: PRIMUS Desert Pilot
The inspiration for the 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition is rooted not only in the history of the classic 417 ES, but also in one of the most distinctive watches in the modern collection: the PRIMUS Desert Pilot. This robust chronograph was introduced as a contemporary interpretation of legendary pilot watches and combines traditional Hanhart design features with an independent, sporty aesthetic. Characteristic elements include the sand-colored dial, the matte sandblasted case and the coarsely woven textile strap — elements that place the desert at the center not only thematically but functionally.

The PRIMUS Desert Pilot has long made a name for itself beyond the product world. Rally driver Stephan Schott has worn the watch during extreme off-road events such as the Dakar Rally and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. The choice of the Desert Pilot for these missions underlines its technical reliability and legibility under the toughest conditions.
With the launch of the new 417 TI Desert Pilot Limited Edition, this legacy continues: Inspired by the functional and robust nature of the PRIMUS Desert Pilot, the new model combines historic pilot chronograph DNA with modern material technology and pronounced outdoor performance. The classic 417 silhouette gains an even more purist, technically defined presence through Grade 5 titanium and a matte finish — entirely in the spirit of the watches that have accompanied rally drivers and adventurers alike.
A Functional Companion for Everyday Life
A defining design element remains the fluted bezel, which can be rotated continuously in both directions and, with its characteristic red insert, references an unmistakable Hanhart detail. It combines functional tradition with high everyday usability and enables flexible time measurement under a wide variety of conditions. As an instrument consistently designed for robustness, the chronograph also features the special Hanhart shock protection system, which additionally safeguards the movement against impacts and ensures reliability even during dynamic use.

The highly domed sapphire crystal echoes the classic design language of historic pilot chronographs while impressing with exceptional resistance to scratches and external influences. With water resistance of up to 10 bar/10 ATM according to DIN 8310, the watch is clearly designed for modern everyday life and remains a reliable companion even under demanding conditions.
On the wrist, a rubber strap with a subtle woven texture ensures sporty comfort and a striking, technical appearance. It combines flexibility with durability and underscores the instrumental character of the timepiece. The overall concept is completed by a pin buckle made of Grade 5 titanium, consistently continuing the lightweight yet highly resistant material concept and making the functional claim visible down to the smallest detail.
THE GERMAN VIRTUE OF PUNCTUALITY
Hanhart’s standard for rate accuracy is as distinctive as the watches themselves. Every single movement is tested and regulated by highly skilled watchmakers at the Hanhart manufactory in Gütenbach. Hanhart specifications for accuracy range from 0 to +8 seconds per day, averaged over six positions. This corresponds to the same overall deviation as plus/minus four seconds, with the difference that Hanhart does not allow any negative deviation in the main positions. Additionally, a maximum delta of ten seconds between positions is permitted. The German virtue of punctuality demands that Hanhart wearers should never be late due to their timepiece.
OTHERS SHOW THE TIME, HANHART MEASURES IT
As a pioneer in the development of wrist chronographs and stopwatches, Hanhart has played an outstanding role in the history of the German watch industry. Driven by a passion for technical innovation, Hanhart continues to set the highest standards, guided by the principles of precision and reliability, perfect legibility, simple and safe operation, and maximum robustness. Since 1882, the manufactory in Gütenbach in the Black Forest has been creating timepieces that combine technical perfection with unmistakable design.
