Grand Seiko’s recent releases four new watches, two quartz and two automatic GMTs with new dials rooted in natural imagery. Across both quartz and mechanical offerings, the watches draw inspiration from seasonal transitions and landscapes near Grand Seiko’s studios in Shinshu and Shizukuishi.
The SBGX357 “Skyflake” from the Heritage Collection carries forward the well-known snowflake dial motif, this time in a blue tone that recalls the reflection of sky on snow. Its titanium case and bracelet make it light and comfortable, while the 9F quartz movement ensures accuracy and reliability. The tempered blue seconds hand adds a subtle point of interest against the textured dial.
The SBGX265, also in the Heritage Collection, was previously limited to Japan but is now available worldwide. It shares the same 37mm size and quartz caliber as the Skyflake but is rendered in stainless steel. Its blue dial gives it a sportier character, making it a versatile option for those who prefer steel construction.
Turning to the Elegance Collection, the SBGM255 “Snowdrop” interprets the seasonal shift from winter to spring. Its patterned dial evokes droplets of melting snow, while the tempered blue 24-hour hand complements the design. Powered by the mechanical Caliber 9S66, it offers GMT functionality, a 72-hour power reserve, and a decorated movement visible through the sapphire case back.
The SBGM257 “Moondrop” captures the atmosphere of autumn nights, with a textured blue dial and a gold 24-hour hand symbolizing dew illuminated by moonlight. Like the Snowdrop, it is driven by the 9S66 caliber and paired with a crocodile leather strap, emphasizing its place within Grand Seiko’s more classically styled offerings.
