Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date
Commentary
Glashütte Original’s Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date in “Plasma” and “Fusion” represents a thoughtful evolution of the brand’s retro-modern design language. The square 40 x 40 mm case remains a distinctive hallmark, but it’s the dial execution that pushes boundaries. By introducing iridescent purple and yellow-green tones that shift with light and angle, the brand taps into a visual vocabulary often reserved for digital renderings—yet grounds it in physical craftsmanship. The matte lacquer finish and vinyl-textured subdials add tactile depth, while the Panorama Date and flyback chronograph functions maintain the technical integrity expected from a high-end German manufacture.

From a collector’s standpoint, these limited editions strike a compelling balance between novelty and substance. The Calibre 37-02 movement is a proven performer, offering 70 hours of power reserve and a flyback function. While the color choices may polarize traditionalists, they’re undeniably forward-looking and may resonate with a younger, design-conscious audience. The inclusion of both rubber and metal strap options enhances versatility, though the square case may still be a niche preference. Overall, these models succeed not just as aesthetic experiments but as fully realized mechanical timepieces that challenge the boundaries of what a retro chronograph can be.

Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date: A Foretaste of the Future
From virtual to real space, Glashütte Original introduces two bold new limited editions.
Glashütte Original’s latest Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date models—“Plasma” and “Fusion”—bring futuristic color concepts into tangible form. The names are intentionally open to interpretation: “Plasma” evokes a rich, intense purple, while “Fusion” signals a vibrant yellow-green. Both dials shift subtly depending on light and angle, making their true color subjective and dynamic. These hues reflect a vision of the future where digital and physical realms converge, echoing the violet and lime tones often seen in virtual renderings. Unlike fleeting digital imagery, Glashütte Original gives these colors lasting presence in the real world.

Confident Colors, Refined Craftsmanship
The lacquered dials are produced in Glashütte Original’s newly inaugurated dial manufactory, opened in June 2025. Their velvety matte finish adds elegance to the luminous tones, making them versatile for both casual and formal wear. Galvanic black subdials with a vinyl-style texture complement the Panorama Date at 6 o’clock, framed by a 40 x 40 mm stainless steel case with polished and satin-brushed surfaces. Each model is offered with either a matte black rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet featuring a fine adjustment mechanism.

Seventies Rhythm Meets Modern Engineering
Inside both watches beats the Glashütte Original Calibre 37-02—an automatic chronograph movement with flyback functionality, crafted and regulated by hand in the brand’s German workshops. It offers up to 70 hours of power reserve and water resistance to 10 bar, combining resilience with precision for everyday wear. The flyback mechanism allows the chronograph to stop, reset, and restart instantly with a single push of the 4 o’clock pusher—streamlining timing with no delay.
The sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement’s refined finishing: Glashütte stripe decoration on the three-quarter plate, a skeletonized rotor with Double-G emblem, beveled and polished edges, and blued screws. Altogether, the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date continues to embody style, performance, and the artistry of German watchmaking.
Availability
The “Plasma” and “Fusion” editions are each limited to 100 pieces and will be available starting August 14, 2025, at Glashütte Original Boutiques and select retailers worldwide.
