Commentary
This release from Gerald Charles for two new references as they celebrate 25 years of the brand, which is founded by Gerald Charles Genta in 2000. He sold the company to the Ziviani family, who have been his longtime friends and partners, and stayed on as designer-in-chief till 2011. The Ziviani family still owns the company today, and in 2019, the next generation of the family – Federico joined as CEO to begin a new chapter. In Spring 2024, Gerald Charles inaugurated the atelier. We will bring you exclusive behind the scenes of this atelier when we visit during Watches & Wonders Geneva 2025.

The styling of the watches are currently based on the unique case shape designed by Gerald Genta himself. It has a basic square shape, but modified with the corners cut off. The design also calls for an arc, like the shape of a smile or chin to be part of the case at 6 o’clock. The basic square shape is slightly rounded off at each of the corners to make this iconic shape. Genta describes this shape as inspired from Roman architecture and art.

The new release consists of a new Tourbillon in white gold with Roman numerals marking just 12/3/9 indices, and left mysterious for the others. At 6 o’clock, a flying tourbillon peeks out from its aperture.

The dial is where the speciality is at. The dial is white gold and is hand hammered to produce an in rather heavy texture, looking to us like the bark of an old tree. The bezel follows the case shape, but is a deep blue titanium over the stainless steel case. The blue titanium bezel is produced by a blue Colourmix treatment.

The second release is a more classical Maestro, though it can be said that the Maestro is hardly classical due to its unusual shape. The watch case is also in stainless steel, but this time the bezel is also in stainless steel with the same Colourmix blue treatment. And even though the base metal is different, in the Maestro 2.0 it is treated on steel, and on the Maestro Tourbillon 9.0, the Colourmix treatment is over titanium.

The dial again is center stage, and is made of Lapis Lazuli. The stone is said to be Genta’s favourite. And the deep blue with its veins make a beautiful complement to the blue bezel framing it and the steel case beyond.

The movement is the an ultra thin movement of Swiss origin, with a central oscillating mass decorated with the new 25th Anniversary logo.

Release Details
Maestro Tourbillon 9.0 Tourbillon
Maison Gerald Charles is proud to launch the Maestro 9.0 Roman Tourbillon in White Gold, Ref. GC9.0-A-RT-WG, testament to Mr. Genta’s visionary style and his legacy of ‘Artistic Creativity and Technical Mastery’.
Mr. Gérald Charles Genta signature smiling case embraces a new hand-hammered white gold dial with the hand-stitched blue alligator strap.
Mr. Genta originally gave birth to the Maestro collection by launching in 2005 the first ever Maestro case with a tourbillon. Featuring the iconic smile at 6 o’clock, the case has the perfect shape to host the tourbillon cage.

The Roman Tourbillon in White Gold is a 50-piece limited edition collection in celebration of the Roman architecture and art from which the iconic Maestro case inspiration comes from, amply emphasised by the roman numerals on the dial. This special timepiece is not only intended to highlight the brand core values and origins, but also to reinforce Gerald Charles high-end skills and expertise in going beyond the limits.
Craftsmanship and high technicity in a unique precious timepiece
The realization of such an intricately crafted and stunning dial implies attention to detail and high-end experience in craftsmanship and watchmaking.
The Roman Tourbillon shows a Métier d’Art. The pure, uncoated 18K white gold dial, alloyed with palladium, results in a refined and consistent finishing pattern.
As underlined, the handmade production process is long and precise. There are only a few artisans that can work with this dial technique and only 2 pieces per month can be produced since a specialised artisan can produce one Roman Tourbillon in no less than 23 hours.
The hand-hammered technique offers to Gerald Charles’ customers the possibility of owning a truly unique piece which cannot be identical to any other.
As its fellow watch in Rose Gold, this tourbillon features two-tone colour and two different materials with a blue titanium bezel on a stainless-steel case. The blue colour is the result of a specialized coating achieved through a Colormix blue treatment which increases its resistance.
On a technical level, this new timepiece features a 60-seconds flying tourbillon with the unique skeletonised cage in the shape of the GC logo, returning to the original Maestro flying tourbillon created by Mr. Gérald Charles Genta himself.
The result is a highly sophisticated 60-seconds flying tourbillon that oscillates at 4hz, made all the more vivid by the natural, three-dimensional contrasts created by combining a surgical-grade stainless steel case, a gold tourbillon bridge and titanium flying tourbillon cage. The timepiece also features a blue indicator applied to the “G” of the cage that serves as a small seconds indicator.
The timepiece is 10 ATM/100 mt water-resistant, 5G shock-resistant and offers 50 hour of power reserve, despite the very high technicality.
As with all Gerald Charles watches, it’s the details that set the timepiece apart, from the textured dial to the alligator strap and the skeletonised tourbillon, marking this as an elegant yet sporty timepiece. It represents a Métier d’Art that simultaneously exudes a contemporary and old-style demeanour.

Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli
Gerald Charles is proud to announce the introduction of the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli, the first watch in its history to bear a hardstone dial. The design joins the brand’s flagship collection and brings an elegant new dimension to the Maestro, a watch which subverts traditional notions of watchmaking.
Neither a dress watch nor a sports watch, the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli blends opulence and practicality in a manner typical of the company’s founder, the legendary watch designer Gérald Charles Genta. Indeed, the stone chosen for the dial was Genta’s personal favourite.
The creation of the lapis lazuli dial is a painstaking and highly skilled process, taking an average of 24 hours per individual dial. From the very first step – the cutting of the raw stone – to the final assembly, it is a tentative journey with a risk of failure at every stage. Even selecting the stone at the outset presents its own challenge, as the colour within cannot be known until it is cut. As each dial is cut and polished from an initial 5mm thick disc down to a final thickness of just 0.55mm, a majority will be discarded as previously invisible imperfections are revealed. Ultimately, to make 50 dials at least 150 discs will be needed.

As the dials are polished, by hand and by machine, the natural beauty of the lapis lazuli is revealed in all its splendour, but there are even greater tests ahead; the fragile stone must be drilled to accommodate the hands, hour markers and date window, and it must be shaped to fit the Maestro’s unique dial. This is the most attritional stage, as the stone cannot be cut but must be patiently and skilfully ground into the correct shape, moving from a perfect circle into the angled, asymmetric outline which distinguishes the Maestro’s silhouette.
This shape, inspired by baroque motifs from the worlds of art and architecture, was one of the last great works of Gérald Charles Genta, who founded Gerald Charles in 2000, giving it his first and middle names. The Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli continues his rich creative legacy, channeling the vibrant and expressive character which epitomised his designs at the height of his career.
To that end, the watch’s semi-precious stone dial is framed by another standout feature. The Maestro’s polished stainless-steel case has been enhanced by the addition of a blue Colormix coating to the bezel, a combined physical and chemical surface treatment that results in a rich blue colour as well as improved scratch resistance. The contrast between the polished bezel and the main case echoes the bold juxtaposition of the applied hour markers, inlaid with white Swiss Super-LumiNova, and the organic pattern of the lapis lazuli dial.
The dial design is completed by a new logo for the brand, with ‘Geneve’ now signed beneath the Gerald Charles word mark; this reinforces the watchmaker’s connection with the city where its atelier is located.
The colour scheme is continued by the rubber strap, a signature of the Maestro family. Originally designed by Gérald Charles Genta, the strap’s Clou de Paris decoration elevates a practical choice while prioritising supreme wearability.
Finally, the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli is powered by the Swiss Manufacture 2.0 caliber, an automatic movement hand-finished to Qualité Fleurier levels. The calibre boasts a 50-hour power reserve, runs at 28,800vph and measures just 3.7mm thick. Decorated with a combination of traditional finishing techniques, including Cotes de Geneve stripes, perlage, colimaçon and yellow gold engraving, it is topped with a customised oscillating rotor that commemorates the brand’s 25th anniversary.
The Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin Lapis Lazuli enters the brand’s core collection from today. While not a numbered limited edition, its availability will be restricted by the material scarcity and handcraft required to create its mesmerising dial.
