New: G-SHOCK new limited edition Frogman Master of G

The third piece in the Frogman limited edition releases from Casio G-SHOCK, the new DW-8230NT is a rather faithful reproduction of the original released in 2000.

New: G-SHOCK new limited edition Frogman Master of G

The new G-SHOCK Frogman Master of G GW-8320NT will be priced at $899 and will be available for purchase at all G-SHOCK stores from 5 May 2023.

Commentary

The Frogman is a legend among the dive watches from G-SHOCK. And this novelty is the third to be released in limited edition to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the model. The first was the GW-8230B-9ADR, released in Nov 2022. A special edition known as the Poison Dart GWF-A1000APF-1A was added in February this year. And a high end metal MR-G version was released last week. We did not cover the MRG-BF1000R because as that was an MR-G model, it is priced about 10 times more than regular resin G-SHOCKs. And now this novelty is the third release, and an extension to the Nov 22 release except for the colour of the resin, which is now a bright red.

The novelty is a faithful reproduction of the original DW-8200NT, which was a special model released in 2000. The DW-8200NT itself is based on the second generation Frogman – the DW-8200. A side by side comparison in the photograph released by Casio shows that the colour is slightly darker in the novelty while the original was a tad brighter, but remains visually almost identical. Even the dimensions are exactly the same.

The movement, is of course, now a new model, and some of the features are slightly different as can be visually seen by the button assignment of the novelty vs the inspiration.

Release information

First released in 1993, the G-SHOCK Master of G FROGMAN timepiece made waves for its capability of withstanding the ISO standard of 200 meters to effectively be certified as a dive watch. 

This year, as it celebrates 30 years, G-SHOCK is proud to add a third model, GW-8230NT to the Master of G limited edition project to commemorate the milestone anniversary. The DW-8200NT, originally released in 2000, will be reissued as the third FROGMAN GW-8230NT, this time in an unapologetic chilli red applied to both the watch, its box packaging as well as travel soft pouch. 

FROGMAN Master of G 30^th Anniversary Edition

The DW-8200NT became a popular model following its initial release for its bold, iconic asymmetrical FROGMAN configuration, and the red of its band, bezel, and LCD. The newly reissued model uses biomass plastic for its bezel and band to reduce environmental impact. 

A new solar panel more faithfully reproduces the shape of the dial and supports the watch’s Tough Solar power system. A special FROGMAN 30th anniversary logo is engraved on the back cover of the titanium case and appears on the display when illumination is turned on. 

On top of water resistance, the model comes with G-SHOCK’s standard specifications of shock resistance, electro-luminescence backlight and afterglow and flash alert that rings with a buzzer sound for alarms and hourly time signals. Other technical features include 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, multi-function alarm, hourly time signal, full auto calendar, 12/24-hour time format and regular timekeeping. They come with an approximate battery life of two years.
