Commentary

Farer is a brand we have not covered before, so perhaps we start with a small introduction. It is a British brand which began some 11 years ago, and have been focused on travel as a lifestyle. The name Farer is taken from the English word to mean Explorer, Wayfarer, Seafarer, Farfarer. It provides a rather fresh take on a classic watch genre. Often quirky in the most English of senses and designed for adventure. The watches are conceived and designed in England, but made in Switzerland by partners. Movements are typically Sellita, in their elaboré level, with custom engravings.

This new release is with two GMT styled watches in a cushion case. To say that the case bears some resemblance to the Panerai Luminor case without the crown guard is not a surprise. The case is perhaps best described as Farer has done – cushion shaped. The two novelties have different colour dials.

The first, christened Furneaux has a pink dial with fumé from dark at the peripheral to lighter in the center, but also with a kind of texture which reminds us of clouds, but raspberry pink ones. The fumé effect is achieved in a rather different method than the one we outlined by Glashütte Original. But by a process where multiple coats of paint is applied and the dial spun such that the centrifugal force draws the paint to the edges to create the gradation. A clear lacker then protects the dial.

The other is named Belzoni, and is the same watch, but with a teal coloured with a radial bark texture. Both are named after English personalities. Farer does not describe how the radial bark texture is applied and from the photographs, it looks like there is also a gradation to the teal colour.

Pricing looks a very reasonable EUR 1.2k level, though we reserve recommendation until we get to examine the watch up close. From the release photographs, the novelties look very promising.

Editor’s note: We also note that the release we received has a stated embargo until 12PM GMT on 12 March 2026, but as at 4PM SGT (9AM GMT), the collection is already available on their website. We are not sure why they gag the press, but release the news on their own site breaking their own embargo. We are publishing this at 12PM GMT 12 March 2026 as stated in their press document.

Release details

The Cushion Case collection was created around the concept of bold restraint, and these new 35mm models are the natural refinement of that original idea. The case design is based on the best-selling 38.5mm cushion case, first launched in 2022, but this smaller iteration takes the organic curves of the original and makes the angles more dramatic, with a steeper slope to the bezel. The result is a compact watch that still offers excellent presence on the wrist, and the bright dials draw the eye with their rich colours and unique patterns.

Both watches have dials that are carefully crafted using the same manufacturing process first introduced on our Three Hand Series III, which launched last year. First, the dial is pressed with the unique texture, then it is spun whilst multiple coats of paint are applied. The centrifugal force created by the spinning pushes the paint to the edges, creating a colour gradient that draws your attention to the centre of the dial. Finally, a clear lacquer is applied to the dial and polished to a glossy finish.

It’s this time-consuming process that gives the dial its jewel-like brilliance, which makes it the perfect backdrop for the polished numerals and batons. These are paired with an alpha-shaped handset with a matching mirror polish, whilst the seconds hand has a teal Farer ‘A’ at its tip. These minimalist hands and markers offer excellent legibility, lighting up when their reflective surfaces catch the light, without distracting from the eye-catching beauty of the textured dial.

This distinctive dial is housed within a sleek 35mm case that has a dramatic sloping bezel, whose polished surfaces catch the light from almost any angle.

The case shape is carefully designed so that the curvature of the bezel extends down through the barrel-sided case sides, and the sloped bat ear lug design. A small, but important detail, is that the case is scalloped between the lugs, so that the strap sits snugly against the watch and appears integrated into the case.

Through the sapphire caseback, you can see the hand-wound Selitta SW210-1 b movement ticking away. The Swiss calibre offers a 45-hour power reserve, 18 jewels, and a 4Hz beat rate. As Farer always pays attention to the details, the Elaboré movement features Top Grade finishing, such as customised bridge engraving, perlage, and blued screws. This ensures that these watches are beautiful from every angle.

The Furneaux delivers a hit of playful colour in a sleek, wearable 35mm case. The dial has a unique texture that produces a myriad of raspberry pink shades. Onto this are mounted polished silver batons that slope inwards, with applied numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9. The alpha-shaped hands are also polished, with the seconds hand having a pink Farer ‘A’ at its tip.

The Furneaux is named after Captain Tobias Furneaux. Born in 1735, he was a navigator and Royal Navy officer who accompanied Captain Cook on his second voyage to circumnavigate the Earth. During which he explored Tasmania and made the earliest British chart of the island. He would also return to Britain accompanied by Omai of Ulaietea, the first South Sea Islander to travel to Great Britain. Lastly, the Furneaux scorpionfish, Scorpaenopsis furneauxi, is named after the captain.

The Belzoni is a compact yet colourful watch, with a bold teal dial featuring a radial bark-like texture. Like the Furneaux, the applied batons are angled and punctuated by polished numerals. The Farer ‘A’ at the tip of the seconds hand is teal, as are the five-minute increments along the white minute track.

The Belzoni is named after Sarah Belzoni, an English traveller and writer. Born Sarah Banne in 1783 in Bristol, she married Giovanni Belzoni, and in 1815, the couple travelled to Egypt. Here, the study of Egyptology was at its peak, and they engaged in the exploration and excavation of many historic sites. It was here that she also wrote about the lives of Egyptian women, and her work was the first of its kind on the topic. It provides a valuable insight into the social structure of 19th-century Egyptian culture.
