Commentary

The De Bethune DB25 and DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT represent two distinct yet complementary expressions of the brand’s philosophy of horological artistry. The DB25, with its classical round case and refined dial architecture, embodies De Bethune’s pursuit of timeless elegance. Its design language draws inspiration from traditional watchmaking codes, yet it is infused with the brand’s signature technical innovations—such as the use of titanium, finely executed guilloché, and the distinctive blued hands that have become a hallmark of the maison. The DB25 is a watch that speaks to collectors who value purity of form and mechanical sophistication, offering a serene balance between heritage and modernity.

By contrast, the DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT showcases De Bethune’s avant-garde spirit and technical daring. This reversible timepiece is a dual-faced marvel: one side presenting a contemporary aesthetic with a digital jumping GMT display, the other side offering a more classical visage with traditional hands. The ingenuity lies not only in its mechanical complexity but also in its conceptual boldness—allowing the wearer to shift between two identities within a single watch. Together, the DB25 and DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT illustrate the breadth of De Bethune’s vision: one rooted in classical watchmaking traditions, the other pushing boundaries with futuristic design and technical mastery.

Press Release

Independent watchmaker De Bethune introduces two significant novelties, each reflecting the Maison’s enduring commitment to mechanical innovation, poetic design and artisanal craftsmanship. The new DB25 Perpetual Sky, presented in a refined 40 mm case, and the DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT, a double-sided watch with dual identities, exemplify the watchmaker’s mastery across both complication and expression.

DB25 PERPETUAL SKY

De Bethune expands its DB25 collection with a 40 mm interpretation of the Perpetual Calendar – redesigned to maintain legibility, comfort and the technical sophistication of the Manufacture’s calibre. Crafted in grade 5 titanium, the slim case retains the DB25’s hallmark hollowed lugs and a remarkably light presence on the wrist. The perpetual calendar display is arranged across a multi-level architecture featuring ring-shaped appliques and a silver-toned minutes track, with the date at 6 o’clock, day at 9 o’clock and month at 3 o’clock. Time is indicated by polished curved yellow gold hands. At 12 o’clock, De Bethune’s signature spherical moon – crafted from palladium and blued steel – displays lunar phases with a precision of one-day deviation every 122 years. Below it, a gold disc marks the leap-year cycle. The dial is a hand-crafted tableau of De Bethune’s starry sky and Milky Way, created through thermal oxidation, micro-perforations set with white gold pins, and 24-carat gold leaf applied by hand. Powered by the hand-wound DB2500 QP calibre, the watch integrates numerous De Bethune innovations, including a titanium–white gold balance wheel, De Bethune balance spring, silicon escape wheel and triple pare-chute shock system. With over 330 hand-finished components, each piece is produced in strictly limited annual quantities in L’Auberson.

DB KIND OF TWO JUMPING GMT

The DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT combines two distinct faces within a single reversible construction, each presenting a different aesthetic and a different time display. A sophisticated internal mechanism ensures that the hands always move clockwise, regardless of which side is worn. On the contemporary front dial, time is displayed around a central balance wheel, with meticulous layers of microlight, shot-peened and snailed decoration. The watch integrates jumping seconds and home time indications, with titanium architectural elements adding depth and symmetry. The classic reverse side offers a more traditional reading of time: a domed anthracite dial with guilloché centre, gold hands and a polished titanium indicator marking the jumping seconds. The second time zone is adjusted via the crown’s second position. Housed in a 43 mm polished grade 5 titanium case with De Bethune’s articulated floating lugs, the watch is designed for perfect ergonomics and a smooth reversal between its two faces. The case construction includes 42 components engineered to withstand daily wear, temperature changes and moisture. A symbol of duality and mechanical creativity, the DB Kind of Two Jumping GMT embodies the Maison’s drive to unite tradition, technical ingenuity and modern expression.
