Citizen’s Promaster Colllection is representive of the brand’s focus on affordable watches for the masses. This was the inspiration for the brand name – Citizen. It was when the company was founded, and still stands true today. The Promaster is their professional-grade line of rugged sports and tool watches launched by Citizen in 1989, built for extreme environments in the air, on land, and at sea. Today’s novelty announcement covers the air and land series. The raison behind this release is the occassion of the 50th Anniversary of their iconic Eco-Drive technology. This is their class leading light powered technology applied to quartz movement, whose first model called the Crystron was released in 1976. A special edition, called Photon was released earlier to mark this anniversary.

The first model from the Sky collection is the Skyhawk. This watch is limited to 5,200 pieces and is a bracelet timepiece with the case and bracelet in stainless steel which is coated in yellow-gold to look like a gold watch. The case is faceted and very large at 45.7mm nominal diameter. The watch features the Eco-Drive U680 Radio Controlled movement and is designed to be a pilot’s watch, hence the complicated black dial.

Pricing notes

Both watches are priced at the upper mid-levels of Eco-Drive offerings. The SGD 1.45k and SGD 1.89k for the Skyhawk and Tsuno, both pitched at a similar ballpark to the Proton released earlier this year. Of course, these watches are totally different genre, and designed to meet totally different requirements. The Proton is a urban warrior’s basic tool watch, while the Skyhawk is a Pilot’s tool and the Tsuno Chrono is designed to be a driver’s companion.

E210 movement inside offers a mechanism that instantly returns the chronograph hands to zero, a feature often seen in mechanical chronograph watches, in an Eco-Drive quartz model. This limited-edition model combines a classic design with superior functionality.
