Citizen launches two new models from their Attesa line with ceramic bezels and packed with the latest Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS technology.

New: Citizen Attesa Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS

Commentary

Citizen releases two new Attesa models, both featuring a ceramic bezel for the first time. The two watches are based on the same Super Titanium Duratec technology. Duratec is a surface hardening technology developed by Citizen in 2000. We also note that Citizen introduced the world’s first titnium watch in 1970. This is a full decade ahead of the first noted Swiss application of titanium to a watch case, which was the IWC Porsche Design Chronograph released in 1980.

One of the novelties is finished in a natural titanium finish using Duratec Titanium Carbide, and the other is finished in black using Duratec DLC. Other than that, both watches are identical.

Duratec Titanium Carbide and Duratec DLC are a coating technologies, the former features a silvery hue showcasing the metal elegance, and the latter, was introduced by Citizen in BaselWorld 1987 achieving a dark coat. Both have excellent hypoallergenic properties and remarkably scratch resistant. In tests released by Citizen, the Duratec DLC coating is even more resistant to scratches than Duratec Titanium Carbide, and thus commands a small price premium.

Both watches are equipped with the Caliber F950, which is currently the top-of-the-line movement with Eco-Drive GPS Satellite Wave. The F950 is based on the F900. The F950 improves over the F900 in the speed which it displays the satellite time, which is claimed to be as little as 3 seconds. We had the CC4025-82E which is the flagship Satellite Wave model a review loaner, and it uses the same F950 movement. Although we were not able to critically test this claim, we can anecdotally report that this timing is in the right ballpark. The hands do move remarkably fast, for example, the second hand makes one rotation of 360° in the forward or reverse direction within a single second. This is made possible through a high-speed twin-coil motor design.

We have requested and granted a loaner for the CC4105-69E, and will report back our wear experience with detailed review in March.

These watches – the first ATTESA models to feature a ceramic bezel – are also equipped with the F950 movement, the most advanced movement for Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS watches.

The watches have a stylish combination of contrasting materials – the octagonal ceramic bezel has a rugged brushed finish and the case is made of Super TitaniumTM*2. The uniquely shaped push buttons on the side of the case create a dynamic, distinctive look. For decades, CITIZEN has pushed the boundaries of titanium processing, and the company’s proprietary technologies are utilized in these new models to ensure that the top of the octagonal ceramic bezel fits snugly within the ridges of the case. The sleek integrated case and bracelet also creates a streamlined, appealing look. The black color of the dial was inspired by the deep black of unprocessed titanium, and gleaming metal rings around the three sub-dials provide stylish accents. The dial ring has a rough metallic texture that combines beautifully with the lustrous black dial to create a bold, modern look.

Both models are equipped with CITIZEN’s F950 movement, the ultimate movement for Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS watches. They are capable of receiving time signals in as little as 3 seconds – the fastest GPS satellite signal reception in the world*3 – and the hour and minute hands move rapidly to display local time. No matter where you are on planet Earth, these watches can rapidly receive time signals from satellites in orbit to ensure they always display the correct time. These watches are also equipped with Double Direct Flight*4 which allows the user to rapidly change the display to local time in 26 time zones in just two simple steps.
