Commentary
This is not the first Railroad Marine GMT to sport meteorite dials. Ball has 4 other references with different colour combinations for the bezel which also have meteorite dials. All these 4 existing references are in 40mm titanium case with no offer at 42mm. So it appears that this novelty release is focused on the new bezel colour combination of yellow and black to be available in both 40mm and 42mm.

The use of gas discharge tubes for lume is a highlight of Ball watches. The lume is bright and strong, and lasts for years. This is still impressive to see, as we outlined in our review of the Engineer HydroCarbon AeroGMT.

The movement is the BALL RR1203-C, which is a derivative of the Sellita SW200-1. The release photograph says 26 jewels on the rotor which identifies this base movement. The same Ball caliber with 25 jewels on the rotor is based on the ETA 2824-2.

Pricing wise, we find the pricing to be somewhat confusing. Models with similar specification may have different pricing, and models which are different may have the same price. For example, the price for both the 40mm and 42mm models are the exact same price. Retail pricing for these limited edition novelties is also exactly the same as the meteorite models in the existing collection. Further, models can be randomly be picked for online discounts. We find this to be confusing. We also note that overall, pricing seems to be in the correct ballpark for a tool watch of this level of design, construction, finish with COSC certification.

The press material is also not clear. To the end that we think there will be three references for novelty meteorite dials. But we are not 100% sure. The press release states the details are for the meteorite dials, but include two models with just plain black or blue dials. As we are focused on new meteorite dials, we will not pick up on these plain black dial versions. It is also not clear if the 1000 piece limited edition applies to each of the three models – 40mm in black bezel, 42mm in black bezel, and 42mm in black and yellow bezel, or 1000 in 40mm and another 1000 in 42mm. For clarity, as usual, we reproduce the entire text of the release for you to decide.

Despite this confusion, we are quite liked the build quality of Ball watches. But we do note that we have not have had these novelties on hand, so this is based on previous experiences with Ball watches.. They are well constructed, and very sturdy, and gives us full confidence for usage as tool watches.
Release details
Roadmaster Marine GMT
Beyond the reach of land with a meteorite dial.
Originating in outer space, the new and exclusive meteorite dial of the Roadmaster Marine GMT is built to guide extreme exploration across all environments. Due to the material’s one-of-a-kind composition, every dial is unique in design, safely housed inside a lightweight titanium case. Limited to 1,000 pieces per execution, its extraterrestrial style is complemented by BALL’s patented quick-set GMT push buttons and cosmic glow of micro gas lights. Gear up and explore far beyond the reach of land – and far beyond ordinary.
Expanded tubes for greater glow.
A modern classic with advanced brightness, the Roadmaster Marine GMT now features a longer micro gas tube on the GMT hand and a newly-added tube on the seconds hand. Completely self-powered, the revolutionary tubes are integrated into the meteorite dial at each hour marker and on each hand, delivering clear time reading in an instant. In combination with the ceramic bezel’s Super-LumiNova coating, three time zones can be easily read in total darkness.
Celestial style like no other.
The Roadmaster Marine GMT features a dial made from Gibeon meteorite, perhaps the most famous in the world. Highly aesthetic and unique, Gibeon meteorite is believed to have come from a large asteroid after its explosion – transforming on its journey through space, arriving at Earth around 600 million years ago. Its intricate crystalline patterns, known as Widmanstätten patterns, were naturally formed over millions of years as the iron and nickel alloys within the meteorite slowly cooled, and could not be replicated on Earth. BALL designers have carefully crafted the dial appearance to showcase these unique patterns while also ensuring utmost legibility.
Quick-Set GMT for faster connections.
On long journeys across foreign lands and untamed waters, the Marine GMT allows to easily track time with the BALL specially-made GMT movement module, by simply using the patented quick-set buttons to adjust the GMT hand instead of turning the main crown. The button at 8 o’clock moves the GMT hand backward, while the 10 o’clock button moves it forward. When traveling, the GMT hand reveals local time in conjunction with the markings on the edge of the dial, whereas the main hour hand shows the home time. In conjunction with the bi-directional bezel, the quick-set GMT hand may display the time in a third geographic zone. The entire movement has received COSC chronometer certification for extreme precision.
Ultimate material toughness.
Striking in design, the yellow and black ceramic bezel pair beautifully with the titanium case. And the overall bold aesthetics are matched by the timepiece’s sheer strength. Virtually scratchproof, the ceramic bezel is tough enough to stand up to the harshest conditions and most unforgiving terrains. Ceramic is also impervious to ultra-violet rays, ensuring long-lasting color. Below the bezel, the 40mm or 42mm case simultaneously delivers high-grade strength and a lightweight wearing experience. It also enables unencumbered movement and reduced skin irritation.
For adventure and adversity.
This timepiece is an all-around tool for exploration with sporty lines, robust construction and intelligent technology. Certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), it has undergone strict testing to validate its precision. Water resistant to 300 meters, the Roadmaster Marine GMT is open to adventure without hesitation – above and below the waves.
Today, more than ever, BALL is continuing its journey and asserting its role as a key protagonist in the exploration of modern time and the evolution of watchmaking history.
