Commentary

Value for money King, Ba111od releases a special edition of two references honoring the Baillod’s family history. This history is not quite well known, but the family name has been a part of the Neuchâtel horilogical history since 1341. And these two novelties are identical, except that one has the natural stainless steel case, while the other still has a stainless steel case, but coated with a soft gold PVD.

The design is based on a 19th century pocket watch signed Charles Baillod, Locle.

And this is the reference to transition to these novelties we are presented today.

The dial has clean, very classical layout. Thin Roman numerals which are printed on the dial, which features center medallion with a guilloché pattern. Ba111od does not specify that this is done with a rose engine, and at this price point, we assume it is stamped. The small seconds hand has a concentric circle design. Breguet style hands in blued or black steel complete the dial.

The movement is a Soprod C110. And different from the P024 used in the 2025 Chapter 8, which also features a date which the C110 lacks.

Pricing for the Legacy watches are a bit more than the 3 hand Chapter 8, which comes in below CHF 600, and is the same as the Chapter 8 Moonphase at CHF 1.1k. Comparatively, it may seem that the Chapter 8 Moonphase is a better value, but in the final analysis, it depends on which the aesthetics speak to you.

Release Details

Following the unveiling of Chapter 8 last August, BA111OD presents the Baillod Family Legacy Special Editions, two timepieces conceived as a singular tribute to the Baillod family’s centuries-old watchmaking roots in the canton of Neuchâtel. Inspired by a family pocket watch from the late 19th century, these special editions are intended to open a creative interlude, translating more than 250 years of watchmaking history into a resolutely contemporary language. More than a stylistic exercise, they embody a living dialogue between memory and creation, true to BA111OD’s philosophy: respecting history without ever being confined by it.

Baillod. Neuchâtel as a starting point, not a monument.

The Baillod name has been part of Neuchâtel’s landscape for centuries. Its earliest recorded trace appears in 1341, on a stained-glass window in the church of Môtiers, marking one of the oldest documented family presences in the canton. In 1775, the name entered regional watchmaking records, setting the foundations of a mechanical culture that continues to evolve more than 250 years later.

In 2019, Thomas Baillod founded BA111OD to project this legacy forward rather than preserve it. Anchored in Neuchâtel, the brand embraces an independent, demanding, and accessible vision of Swiss Made watchmaking. One that rejects fixed codes in favour of sincerity, creative freedom, and a direct, unfiltered relationship with its community.

« Two and a half centuries of history are not an end point. They are a foundation. This legacy does not dictate our future; it gives us the momentum to keep creating freely, with rigour and independence, in respect of what has been passed down, without ever standing still. »

Thomas Baillod, founder of BA111OD

A heritage piece as a creative trigger

In 2025, BA111OD added a late 19th-century pocket watch signed Charles Baillod, Locle, to its heritage collection. Far more than a historical object, this piece became a creative reference point, an intimate source of inspiration. Starting from this watch, the Maison’ s Senior Designer, Liliane Murenzi, conceived two special editions that reinterpret its essential codes, transposed into the language of the contemporary wristwatch. The approach is clear: a modern, controlled, and confident translation.

Watchmaking memory translated into contemporary design

The Chapter 8 – Baillod Family Legacy Special Editions draw directly from the codes of the original pocket watch, reinterpreting its key elements through a contemporary design language. The guilloché motif dial echoes the engraved decoration of the historic piece, complemented by Roman numerals and a classic railway minute track. The hands balance classical inspiration with legibility, while the small seconds at 7’o clock and the carefully profiled crown reference the ergonomics of period pocket watches. The caseback, adorned with a dedicated engraving, positions these editions as a deliberate and intentionally singular tribute within the Baillod family’s watchmaking timeline.

Chapter 8 – Baillod Family Legacy Special Editions

The Chapter 8 – Baillod Family Legacy Special Editions are distinguished by a 41 mm case combining satin-brushed and polished finishes, featuring a concave bezel, rounded lugs, and a transparent sapphire caseback. The domed sapphire crystal is treated with double anti-reflective coating. Powering the watch is a Swiss automatic Soprod movement with a 42-hour power reserve.

The collection is offered in two interpretations: a stainless steel version with blued hands, and a stainless steel version with soft gold PVD treatment paired with black hands. Each model is fitted with a black crocodile-style leather strap.
