New: Ba111od Chapter 7 – their first officially certified chronometer

The Ba111od Chapter 7 retails at CHF 760 for the versions in rubber strap and CHF 820 with stainless steel bracelet.

Commentary

Ba111od upped its game with a new Chapter in their short, but illustrious history. An achievement on its own, and not just claiming chronometer on the dial, but actually getting it certified by Observatoire Chronométrique de Genève TIMELAB.

Though the specifications for certifying a chronometer is not particularly arduous, this step demonstrate the seriousness of the tiny maison, founded by Thomas Baillod only in 2019.

The watch looks like a basic time only with date sporty watch. The 10 sided bezel has a circular opening for the dial, and features a linear brushed surface, but with the chamfers being polished. This bezel sits on a flat surface, also linear brushed, which slopes away into the integrated lugs. The sides of the tonneau shaped flat surface is chamfered and polished. The look is reminiscent of a mix of the AP Royal Oak with Vacheron Constantin 222. But the crown at 4 o’clock claims specificity to the brand.

The movement is a Soprod P024, which is slightly disappointing, and we would have preferred a more interesting and exclusive movement, perhaps by Olivier Mory of BCP, but we guess Thomas had to choose this more common movement to meet the very attractive price point of round about CHF 800…a bit less for the rubber strap, and a bit more for the stainless steel bracelet. The steel bracelet is rather nicely tapered and is a 3 link design, finished in linear brush, with polished chamfers.

The dials are available in four colours, and feature a sunray finish with an assymetrical cascading guilloché pattern, making it rather unique. The guilloché patterns make it look like a graphical interpretation of sound waves, and together with the sunray finish, look like it is radiating outwards. Interesting optical effect.

Chapter 7 Certified Chronometer by the Observatoire Chronométrique de Genève

“This certification marks a new milestone for BA111OD and reflects our high standards and commitment to offering the best to our customers.”

Thomas Baillod, founder of BA111OD

Staying true to its values, the Neuchâtel-based brand has chosen the chronometer certification from the Observatoire Chronométrique de Genève, conducted by the TIMELAB Foundation, to meet the most rigorous standards.

Since each movement is individually tested, it ensures an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day—well beyond the standards of conventional mechanical watches. Carefully adjusted, this movement also offers increased resistance to temperature variations, shocks, and magnetic fields, guaranteeing optimal performance in all circumstances.

Minimalist Design, Maximum Performance

Combining simplicity and refinement, BA111OD’s Chapter 7 stands out with its 40mm stainless steel case, chronometer-certified automatic movement, and a design that strikes the perfect balance between technicality and elegance.

Its 10-sided faceted bezel and the subtle interplay of satin and polished finishes add structure and dynamism, while each polished edge catches the light to enhance the details. The sunray dial, adorned with an asymmetric cascading guilloché pattern, reinforces its unique character.

Available in four colors, each paying tribute to the iconic landscapes of Neuchâtel: Deep Blue, Ice Blue, Forest Green, and Jet Black—a palette that captures the essence of the canton, from the vastness of the lake to the snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and time-sculpted landscapes.

A harmonious palette, enhanced with either a matching rubber strap for a sporty touch or a stainless steel bracelet for a more sophisticated look. The date at 3 o’clock and the off-centered crown at 4 o’clock—BA111OD’s signature—complete this modern reinterpretation of a classic timepiece.

A watch designed to accompany every moment of daily life, blending innovation with Swiss watchmaking heritage.

    • perhaps disappointing is too strong a word. I would have preferred a more exclusive movement as a base to start. But as I said, the P024 is par for the course at the pricing level that Ba111od is targeting.
