New and Reviewed: Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar ultra-thin

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar ultra-thin Ref. 4300V/220R-H144 will retail at SGD 179,000 / CHF 119,000 which is the same as the other existing models.

The VC Overseas Perpetual Calendar ultra-thin story so far

The novelty is a new variant of the Overseas Perpetual Calendar which was originally released as part of the Overseas refresh of 2016. The launch model included a Perpetual Calendar in white gold with a slate grey dial, and not offered with a bracelet option. A pink gold model was then released in 2019, this was the Ref. 4300V/120R-B064 with black dial, also without a bracelet. Our full hands on comprehensive review is recommended prerequisite reading. A bracelet option was released as the Ref. 4300V/000R-B509 in 2020. These were replaced by 3 other Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra Thin watches which is still in the current collection. Two in pink gold with either a silver dial or a blue dial, and one in white gold with a blue dial. We understand the pink gold with the silver dial is being discontinued. Three additional references are available with a skeletonised dial – two in pink gold and one in white gold.

What is new

https://youtu.be/5Dbloj-KupI

What is absolutely new is the dials. The pink gold version is offered in a tone on tone pink gold dial which looks amazing.

And the white gold variant sports a bright burgundy…dark, almost aubergine looking, dial. The colour is created with the use of a colour lacquer layer.

What remains unchanged

The case remains unchanged from its previously released pink gold and white gold siblings. This includes the user exchangeable strap system, and the watch comes with the matching gold bracelet as well as two rubber straps with one pin buckle. The pin buckle is redesigned, and now even easier to install and remove. See the video above to see the removal.

The movement, the Cal. 1120QP/1 also remains in residence within its sapphire glass display case-back. As noted in our previous reviews, this 276-part, 36-jewel movement is developed and manufactured in-house by Vacheron Constantin. The self-winding movement has a power reserve of 40 hours and operates at a lazy 2.75 Hz beat rate. The low-ish power reserve and languid oscillation of the balance wheel (to save energy) is common in perpetual calendar watches as the complication is power hungry.

This is even more the case in thin perpetual calendar timepieces such as the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin where the mainspring barrel is restricted in size. The movement is, impressively, only 4.05 mm thick. The movement is beautifully decorated and comes with a Poinçoin de Genéve certification.
