Amida releases another version of their stunning driver’s watch , now with a sapphire crystal hood. With live photographs and hands on commentary.

New and Reviewed: Amida Digitrend Open Sapphire
The Amida Digitrend Open Sapphire has a retail price of CHF 4,500 excluding taxes. Limited Edition of 150 pieces.
The case, dial and display
The case is the same as the Take Off Edition we reviewed in 2024. The launch model had a stainless steel body. Amida added to the collection, two new colourways later that year in the black DLC and gold PVD bodywork.

And this year, they advanced the design even further, and this novelty has a sapphire glass cover over the steel body. Like a display cover to make the discs which show the time visible. This jumping display is quite interesting to view, and provides some of the fascination to the watch. This sapphire glass now covers 2/3 of the case, leaving 1/3 of the body being in stainless steel.

As worn on the wrist, the time display, as viewed through the prismatic crystal remains the same, and is a joy to wear, especially when driving.

The movement
The movement remains the Soprod NEWTON P092 used in earlier versions. The principal feature being hte jumping hour disc.

In this novelty, instead of just a window to view the movement from the case back, the opening is enlarged to show more of the movement.
Competitive landscape
The competitive landscape as described in our comprehensive review of the Take-Off Edition remains unchanged. The members still comprise the original Amida, the Girard-Perregaux Casquette 2.0 and the MB&F HM5, HM8, HM8 Mark 2 and HMX models.
Concluding thoughts
The fun continues. This new Amida, perhaps, offers a bit more, but exposing the minute and hour discs, allowing a peek at the dance of the discs as each hour clicks into place. And it never gets old…each time, the movement makes the jump, the fascination and amazement is renewed.

The sapphire cover does increase the price, so it is up to you to determine if this makes sense to have the display revealed under the glass. But either the original Amida Digitrend, or this new Digitrend Open Sapphire, we think the value proposition is still there.
