The Montblanc Heritage Pythagore Small Second Limited Edition 148, Montblanc takes the best vintage cues from Minerva’s rich past and iterates it for the present. Two models in 18 K rose or white gold with different coloured dials make up the collection.

The New Heritage Pythagore models

The Montblanc Heritage Pythagore Small Second Limited Edition 148 features all the vintage codes of the collection and bear the name of Minerva on the dial in the form of a secret signature.

Following the historical design of the collection, the Montblanc Heritage Pythagore Small Second Limited Edition 148 comes with a fully polished 18 K white or rose gold 39 mm case, curved horns with facets, and is fitted with a sapphire crystal glass box. The 9.50 mm thick case is water resistant to 50 m.

Inspired by historical Minerva timepieces from the 1940s and 1950, special attention has been paid to the dials that include multi-texture finishes. The watches come with distinctive dials, colored in blue and slate brown.

The dial is first produced with two different motifs – a sunray decoration in the centre and a “grainé” finish on the hour ring. After the decoration is added, a Sfumato brown or blue colour is applied to provide different shades of colour that radiate from the centre, where it is lighter, getting darker towards the outside.

Several layers of translucent lacquer are then applied to the dials, allowing time to dry between each layer, to enhance the sunray pattern and create a contrasting shine on the final timepieces.

To complete the overall design, the timepieces are fit with matching brown or blue vintage Sfumato alligator straps.

The movement

Montblanc unveils a brand-new Manufacture movement inspired by the historical Minerva Pythagore calibre 48 created in the 1940s. The new Manufacture calibre MB M14.08 comes fit with geometrical shapes that recall the historical Pythagore movement.

The hand-finishes and decoration are designed to follow the golden ratio with vertical Geneva stripes which highlight the geometric design. Regarding the name of the calibre 14.08, the number 14 refers to the diameter of the movement in lines, and the number 8 was chosen as part of the Fibonacci sequence, which is closely related to the Golden Ratio.

The 80 hour power reserve movement is manually wound and beats at 18,000 A/h.

Concluding thoughts

The Montblanc Heritage Pythagore Small Second Limited Edition 148 is an attractive looking dress watch. The overall design, size and styling of the watch is delightful as is the movement. Well-finished with Minerva pedigree, the 80 hours power reserve historic movement is a good performer despite possibly being achieved due to a lower beat rate. The watch is priced at S$29,600 and is limited to 148 pieces.
