One hand specialist MeisterSinger releases a variant to their Unitas 1Z Edition – now with a light blue enamel dial and decorated Unitas movement. This is the first coloured grand feu enamel dial released by the maison.

Commentary and insights on the MeisterSinger Unitas 1Z
MeisterSinger is an unusual watch brand. Many maisons chase chronometry and the ability to show this precision with complicated dials and layouts, MeisterSinger chose the opposite. And for a good reason. With the possible exception of some professions where absolute time accuracy is essential, the rest of us do not need to know the time to the minute, much less to the second. Being able to tell the time on your wristwatch up to the nearest 5 minute suffices for almost daily activities. And for those rare ones which do, there is always the ubiquitous mobile phone which is accurate to the second. So the single handed watch, with the dial marked in 5 minute intervals does the job equally well, and is, perhaps ideal.
And MeisterSinger tackles this design brief with aplomb. With only one hand, they specified only the hour. And this one armed affair, the dial is relieved of the complexity of multiple hand. Simplified to only the essentials. It carries only the hour markers, with sub-divisions for 15 minutes and sub-sub-divisions for each 5 minute interval. It also carries another chapter ring graduated to count up to 12 hours. I guess they did this to balance the dial, veering away from being wide open with negative space. The single hand is arrow shaped, long and slender with three small discs along its length. One as a counterweight, another to cover the pivot and yet another midway from the center to the tip. Overall, the look is elegant…and yes, simple. And yet it evokes a sense of precision, as the design looks like the gauge from a technical instrument.
The dial is in grand feu enamel. A version was released in May this year with a porcelain white with the markers in black and a baby blue. This was the Ref. ED-Unitas-01E. And with this novelty MeisterSinger gives us a light blue grand feu enamel dial. Markings remain restrained and in the same black and baby blue as before. The dial looks darker than the May release, of course, as it is a light blue instead of white. But both look rather fetching. Other than the colour of the dial base, this novelty is exactly the same as the May release.
The movement is the ETA Unitas 6479, which is in the model name, and highly decorated. This movement is a rather standard workhorse. Originally designed for a pocket watch, the hand wound movement is rugged and the mainspring has a strong torque. Though, as this is a rather old movement, being first introduced in 1950 (and revised in 1967), the power reserve is quite short at only 46 hours. As with the May release, the movement is finished to a high level. Not quite artisanal haute horlogerie, but it meets the engineering requirements for finnasage and adds some decorative detailing.
I presume that as the May model’s 25 piece limited edition is sold out, this novelty is released to capitalise on the reception by collectors. The 08E is priced exactly the same as the 01E at EUR 6.99k. And it makes me wonder if this edition gets sold out, another dial variant will emerge.

Edition Unitas 1Z Blue: MeisterSinger expands its celebrated Unitas anniversary edition with a second version featuring a rare light blue enamel dial
With the Edition Unitas 1Z, introduced during its 25th anniversary year, MeisterSinger paid tribute to one of the most significant timepieces in the brand’s history: the first enamel edition launched in 2004. The anniversary model revived the distinctive design of its predecessor, combining a genuine enamel dial with a highly decorated Unitas pocket watch movement.
Now, this exceptional edition is joined by a second variant. The new Edition Unitas 1Z Blue retains all the technical and design features of the original model while reinterpreting them with a light blue enamel dial. It also marks the first time that MeisterSinger has used coloured enamel for one of its dials.
A rare take on the enamel dial
Alongside the white version introduced earlier this spring, the Edition Unitas 1Z is now available with a light blue enamel dial, complemented by subtle black, medium blue and red accents that create a refined and harmonious colour palette.
Crafting a genuine enamel dial is an exceptionally demanding process. Today, this traditional craft is mastered by only a handful of specialists and requires years of experience. Finely ground enamel powder is applied to a copper base and fired at temperatures of around 800°C in multiple kiln firings, creating a dial of remarkable depth, brilliance and lasting beauty.
Even the slightest variation in temperature or firing time can cause the dial to crack, warp or become unusable. As a result, the rejection rate is exceptionally high, making every successfully completed enamel dial a testament to outstanding craftsmanship, precision and patience.
The heat-blued steel hand displays the rich, distinctive shade of blue that has long been associated with these meticulously crafted components.
Mechanical beauty at its finest
At the heart of the watch beats the legendary ETA/Unitas 6497 pocket watch movement. Its generous dimensions almost completely fill the 40 mm case, which was developed specifically for this edition, making the movement the visual centrepiece of the watch through the large exhibition case back—and a highlight for collectors.
For the Edition Unitas 1Z Blue, the movement is elaborately finished with Geneva stripes, blued screws and a swan-neck fine adjustment regulator. Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, it combines traditional movement architecture with excellent rate stability.
Limited to 25 pieces
