The generously proportioned case diameter of 46.2 millimetres, as well as the iconic design in the style of an easy-to-read cockpit instrument, were inspired by the Big Pilot’s Watch Calibre 52 TSC from the 1940s. This version, which is limited to 250 pieces, was explicitly designed to be worn on the right wrist. For this reason, the eye-catching, diamond-shaped crown is situated on the left-hand side of the case. This makes it infinitely more practical to operate, for example, for left-handers. A soft-iron inner case protects the IWC-manufactured 52010 calibre from the detrimental effects of magnetic fields on the watch’s accuracy. The automatic Pellaton winding system is fitted with ceramic components and builds up a seven-day power reserve in two barrels. This Big Pilot’s Watch features a power-reserve display at “9 o’clock” and a small seconds hand at “3 o’clock”.

Visitors will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the history of the Big Pilot watch and appreciate the watches in the flesh with the showcase of over 30 vintage and historical Big Pilot watches specially flown in from the IWC Museum in Schaffhausen. This is the first time such a large number of Big Pilots are taken out from the museum for an exhibition outside of Switzerland. The latest Pilot’s collection, including Big Pilot’s Watch 43 and Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41, alongside selected limited-edition pieces will also be displayed at the exhibition.

“We are excited to be at Design Orchard and let our guests experience the Big Pilot’s story in such a unique environment. We’d also love to see how the new Big Pilot’s Watch 43 will look on the wrists of our guests. On top of the new Big Pilot 43, visitors will also be able to discover some of the most iconic Pilot’s watches from our museum as well as other extraordinary models we are launching this year.”

Florian Gutsmiedl, IWC’s Managing Director for Southeast Asia and Oceania.

This year, the Manufacture has also called upon a select number of friends of the brand globally such as Billy Monger, a racing driver, disability campaigner and challenger; Lu Yan, a womenswear designer and sustainability campaigner; Matt Pearson, the co-founder of Airspeeder; and Matt Jones, a world record breaker and IWC Longest Flight pilot to tell their story of pushing boundaries and redefining the status quo. Local sneaker designer Mark Ong, who is IWC’s local friend of the brand and exclusive Creator Ambassador, will also be telling his story as part of this initiative. At the exhibition, a specially fabricated “Talent Wall” will feature short inspirational videos of each personality showcasing how they realized their ambitions and details how the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch was their perfect wingman as they worked towards success.
