Breitling has announced that it will be teaming up with MR PORTER, the award-winning online destination for men’s style. MR PORTER will offer a curated selection of 31 timepieces from Breitling’s iconic product families. The partnership will begin with a special limited edition watch from the new Navitimer 8 collection.
Breitling has announced the launch of a very special timepiece to celebrate its new partnership with MR PORTER, a company that has established itself as the leader in online luxury retail for men. The Navitimer Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Limited Edition is part of the Navitimer 8 collection that Breitling introduced to great acclaim earlier in 2018.

The Navitimer Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Limited Edition
The Navitimer Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Limited Edition will be produced in a series limited to 1000 pieces. Its beating heart is the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B01, which has been regarded by experts and enthusiasts alike as one of the world’s finest mechanical watch movements ever since it was created. Like all Breitling watches, the Navitimer Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph 43 Limited Edition is a COSC-certified chronometer.
This timepiece is a study in style, featuring an elegant silver dial and anthracite contrasting chronograph with small seconds subdials. Its cutting-edge movement is visible through a transparent sapphire caseback, while a distinctive satin-brushed bezel features indexes and Arabic numerals in addition to its practical pointer. The watch is presented on a brown leather strap. The limited edition will be available exclusively from MR PORTER as of June 4, 2018. From July onwards, it will also be available in Breitling Boutiques and select Breitling retailers around the world.
A Strong Link to Breitling’s Aviation Heritage
The Navitimer 8 collection was inspired by the Huit Aviation Department, which was established by Willy Breitling in 1938. The division’s name was taken from the French word for “eight,” reflecting the need for cockpit instruments of the day to have an eight-day power reserve. Even then, Breitling had already established itself as a leader in aviation instruments, a status it maintains to this day. The Navitimer 8 watches recall the design values of the Huit Aviation Department and one of Breitling’s truly iconic pilots’ watches, the Reference 768, whose rotating bezel and distinctive triangular pointer made it a favorite among aviators.

You know, this unremitting promotion from Kerns is showing-up the so-called discerning horological press as little more than patsies. It is offensive.
What is even more offensive is that each new release seems to confirm my suspicion that Kerns has decided to use the designers who got sacked from Bremont for producing watches which looked too cheap. Breitling used to be statement watches; not for everyone, but with their own identity. I could respect that. In fact, before Kerns took over, I was seriously considering one. But each new release looks cheaper than the last, more soul-less.
