Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Green Abyss
The Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Green Abyss offers an interesting balance between luxury watch heritage and accessible, playful design. The deep green case and ocean-inspired details are visually appealing, while the SISTEM51 automatic movement adds a mechanical element that differentiates it from Swatch’s quartz-based collaborations. Its 50-fathom water resistance aligns with its dive watch roots, matched with a recycled strap and water contact indicator.
From a collector’s standpoint, the Green Abyss feels less like a novelty and more like a thoughtful extension of the Fifty Fathoms ethos, albeit in a more affordable package. While it lacks the exclusivity and craftsmanship of a true Blancpain, it successfully democratizes mechanical dive watches in a way that encourages appreciation for the category. At $400 USD, it presents good value for those intrigued by the collaboration but not looking for serious technical performance. Ultimately, it is more about aesthetics and brand storytellingfor the casual watch enthusiast.

Introducing GREEN ABYSS, the latest model in the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection, celebrating Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms—the first true diver’s watch launched in 1953. This new timepiece draws inspiration from the ocean’s depths and nature’s most elusive ecosystems, designed for those who are drawn to exploration and the unknown.
Boasting a unique combination of deep green hues with a touch of sandy beige and black, GREEN ABYSS evokes the mystery of the ocean’s depths, which remain largely unexplored. This distinctive color scheme is made possible by Bioceramic, a one-of-a-kind composite material derived from castor oil, providing the case and loop with exceptional strength and softness.
On its black dial with a dark green hue, GREEN ABYSS features a genuine water contact indicator, detecting the presence of water—a highly sought-after detail among collectors. Since 1954, Blancpain has incorporated this distinct complication into select models designed for diving clubs and military units.
Positioned at 6 o’clock on the dial, the sensor ensures the watch’s water resistance remains uncompromised by prior dives. A change in the sensor’s color signals the presence of moisture. Several Fifty Fathoms models equipped with this dual-color sensor bear the name ‘MIL-SPEC,’ in accordance with US Navy specifications.
GREEN ABYSS embodies all the hallmarks of Blancpain’s iconic Fifty Fathoms, including exceptional water resistance, anti-magnetic protection, a secured rotating bezel, outstanding legibility, and a mechanical movement.
Like all watches in the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection, GREEN ABYSS features Swatch’s innovative SISTEM51 movement. Swiss Made and crafted through an almost entirely automated production process, SISTEM51 is composed of just 51 parts grouped into five pre-assembled modules, including one central screw. It is anti-magnetic thanks to a Nivachron™ hairspring and boasts a 90-hour power reserve.
The back of the movement showcases a stunning digital print of the Felimare picta, a vibrant nudibranch also known as the Regal Sea Goddess. Often found gracing the ocean floor, it serves as a reminder of the ocean’s countless wonders and its rich tapestry of marine life.
GREEN ABYSS displays a vintage Blancpain logo on its dial—another sought-after detail among collectors. It also features a logo celebrating the collaboration between Blancpain and Swatch on its dial and crown, a two-piece NATO-style strap, and a case profile that evokes the iconic silhouette of the Fifty Fathoms, reflecting its enduring legacy.
The word “Swatch” adorns the left side of the case, just as “Blancpain” is inscribed on the original Fifty Fathoms watches. The back of the watch features inscriptions such as: PASSION FOR DIVING – LICENSE TO EXPLORE – OCEAN BREATH – PROTECT WHAT YOU LOVE – IMMERSE YOURSELF.
GREEN ABYSS will be available worldwide from June 7, 2025, exclusively at selected Swatch stores. As with all watches in the Bioceramic Fifty Fathoms Collection, availability is limited to one watch per person, per store, each day.
